Green bean here, is working at Starbucks really as bad as a lot of people on the sub are saying? (Genuine Question) (self.starbucksbaristas)

So far I’m really enjoying my work, and learning the new drinks. My old job gave no days off, and had no set schedule so I’m really enjoying the set shifts. So far I’ve only had a few negative customer experiences. It seems like it really depends what location you’re on, and maybe I just got lucky, but would you say that working here is actually awful? My SM and GM are super supportive, and my trainer has been doing a *lot* on hands on experience with me. So far I have no complaints other than just ten minutes off.

This is no judgement towards people who dislike the work! I’m just curious.

I think it really does depend on your work dynamic with your coworkers and management! I can deal with shitty customers. They I just laugh at later on, it's when the rest of the workplace is toxic like my grocery store kiosk environment was that it becomes bad, and I know corporate stores can suffer from cliquey coworkers and management with power complexes, hopefully yours stays really good for you!!!

I'm still open to trying corporate sometime but I have a very specific schedule need and likely need a diagnosis and doctors note to really stick to it and not be pushed around.

It varies from store to store, location to location. I do hope you have a good time there but for a lot of us the management was shit, employees were clique-y, and the customers were well…you know.

My experience so far has been a lot like yours (also a very fresh green bean). Supportive management, attentive trainer, nice coworkers, and no real negative customer interactions - they can be particular and demanding but nobody's freaked out on me yet. It's a lot more intense than similar jobs I've had in the past in terms of volume and speed and sheer amount of things to remember, but training so far has given me time to pick things up and been forgiving on my mistakes. I can't decide if the other shoe is gonna drop and things are gonna get bleaker once I'm fully trained, or if I really lucked out with a great location. SO MUCH depends on both management and the area you're drawing customers from - a lot of the negative stories on here scared me, but seem to be a product of really messy stores with bad leadership.

It depends on the store. The partners you work with make or break it but your manager and location are also big factors.

I find it really REALLY depends on management, coworkers, and location. I love my store cause of the people. You're going to come into contact with terrible customers, more than likely at Bux cause the company seems to reward adult baby behavior... But 8/10 times I find they're things you can laugh at later. Management at my store has partners backs. The job is tiring, but in terms of food service jobs I've had its definitely the best. Benefits outweigh the bad stuff... Most of the time. Some of the best people I met working here! Again, 100% depends on the store and people. Do I complain about my job? Yes, always, cause it's a way to let off the stress. But its not horrible... Well, not always... You get it. 😅

My experience was the same it was great probably even one of the best places I worked then my SM left and our new SM made it a nightmare and I ended up getting fired for a policy violation but I don’t even know what policy I violated. I hope your experience is better then mine. I was 5 days away from completing my probationary period when I was fired I was there for almost 3 months
