my biggest heads up coming from retail to starbucks is to keep in mind that there are a dozen roles inside the title of barista. you’ll be trained on all of them, don’t worry, but take your time with the online training they put you through. you’ll find it easy to rush through but i promise it’s better to take your time, get paid for the time allotted to you (instead of finishing quick/early, losing hours, and appearing “good/quick/motivated/a go getter”), soak in all that info and don’t be afraid to take notes! it will be much easier to take notes while doing online modules than it will be when you’re physically training. consider in which ways you learn best and communicate that to your trainer. as i mentioned, there are lots of roles and you will learn all of the routines within them, and you’ll do great! be patient with yourself and don’t let people be mean to you.

Let them know how much of a team player you are and that you communicate effectively. Being an actual team that's flexible in all roles is very helpful for this job. Especially communication!

some tips that helped me is emphasising connections with customers, working in retail is perfect with that. making sure the customer has a great experience when they walk out the door and smiling.
show times where you’ve gone above and beyond when working in retail. starbucks is HEAVY on going above and beyond and not just at satisfactory. don’t just say “oh a lady couldn’t find X but then i found it for her at the end.” something that happened to me personally during season is my coworkers would take like 5-10 min breaks and i’d have to get all their customers (i work in a perfume shop) so showing that you can take on another load when someone else isn’t there and going above and beyond to help 10-15 people all at once (to relate this back: you will be making a ton of drinks all at once)
if you’re passionate about coffee and want to be a barista for just that, let the manager know.
more so: show them you’re a team player. you’re able to get along easily with people, you have a bubbly personality, and you can easily get along with your coworkers is a great step to getting the job.
starbucks is very heavy on their morals so don’t take anything that is written here lightly. they all play heavy major roles in getting the job.
starbucks can teach you drinks, they can teach you the role but what they can’t teach you is an attitude of willingness to do the job/to learn. they also can’t teach you how to enjoy what you do so you have to go in that showing them at you’re eager to enjoy what you do and that you are a quick learner
