What to do if a customer tells me they have COVID?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BlindHIllCorpse
So I’m a green bean and I was working window today and this woman handed me her debit card to pay for her 4 medicine balls and just goes “I have COVID so make sure to use hand sanitizer:)”
And I just felt an instant flash of anger but just smiled and thanked her for the (late) warning.
Do I say something or do I just go on about my day lol tired of customers who have blatantly dont care if they have a highly contagious disease and go to high traffic locations because they a dumb remedy drink
Edit: SM said it had to be ongoing exposure so I was okay to come in. Which is nice because I didn’t wanna use those paid isolation days if I didn’t have it

Ohhhh this makes me so angry!!! I personally would refuse service but I am confrontational and not afraid to lose my job. That’s so disrespectful Jesus I’m sorry friend.

i would be so pissed honestly that’s disgusting and yeah i would honestly tell my manager . technically you were exposed , especially if you grabbed her card and stuff . it almost sounds like they’d put you on isolation just to make sure depending how strict your manager is.

Yeah this is what I was wondering. I just had to pay a lot of vet bills recently and I’m negative in my account so I really need to hours lol

as long as you’ve disclosed your vaccination status *booster included you’ll get paid for whatever shifts you may miss in your 5 day isolation period. but you can only self isolate w/ pay twice in a quarter
BlindHIllCorpse [OP]2 points1y ago
only twice with how often we interact with such a huge number of people?

when i isolated they still paid me for the shifts i was scheduled for (but i didn’t know that and stayed late and covered for people)
angel321ded2 points1y ago
understandable , took me a sec but others beat me to it . you should be getting paid for any scheduled shifts , that can be used twice in a quarter. hope all is well with your animals , wish you the best !!

Yeah people don’t seem to realize our lives matter slightly more than their drinks. They think bc we work at Starbucks it’s okay for them to expose us to something that could potentially be extremely dangerous. Tell your shift or sm and see what they say. Definitely would suggest talking to them before your next shift to make sure you don’t have to quarantine and take out half your team.

Tell them to get the fuck out

I work at a licensed location but I would probably tell the manager or store manager. It’s not just a threat to you, but other baristas and customers as well
BlindHIllCorpse [OP]1 points1y ago
Do I just text my SM? It was during my last shift shortly before I made this post. I feel shitty doing this since it’s my first week at the location since I was trained so I’m nervous to be like “lmao covid exposure”
danabakes322 points1y ago
That or in person. Maybe phrasing it as a question would work well. “What should I do if this happens again?” Or something like that

You are dealing with covid all day long. She was nice to remind you.
You know how shark movies always focus on A SHARK in the water with A FIN... I learned from scuba divibg that A SHARK means SHARKS. So assume COVIDS.
BlindHIllCorpse [OP]6 points1y ago
Would be nicer if she just didn’t expose me to it in the first place
Texastexastexas11 points1y ago
I agree.
But half the entitled ignorants of the US ignore covid and they go to starbucks. Assume everyone has it.
bobbysangtheblues2 points1y ago
Yeah no it would be nice for someone who knowingly has covid to stay at home. You don’t even have to go into a store for groceries anymore, you can order them and have them put in your trunk. There is no excuse!! Coffee is in no way a necessity, and it can be made safely at home.
Texastexastexas1-4 points1y ago
I agree. But thats not reality.
bobbysangtheblues3 points1y ago
It’s not reality because some people need money and are forced into going to work because of this. I completely understand why someone would go to work with covid, because they were afraid of losing their home/ financial stability. I wish it wasn’t the case but I know that does happen.
This is not one of those scenarios!! This bitch was at starbucks!! There is nothing about getting tea that’s crucial to her well-being, or worth putting her community at risk. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to ask people to care about others and use common sense!
Edit: I understand you agree it was wrong and wouldn’t personally do this! I just don’t think there’s any excusing this behavior you know
Texastexastexas11 points1y ago
I am in covid quarantine right now.
I also live in Texas.
My point is that many people are walking around with covid and not saying a thing and we should all assume everyone has it.
Our mission is to provide everyone with access to large- scale community websites for the good of humanity. Without ads, without tracking, without greed.
