So some of my advice is:
1.) breath. When things get overwhelming make sure to breath
2.) ask questions, even if they seem obvious, ask them.
3.) it won’t click right away. When I was hired, my SM told me it would be 3 months before it clicked, and trust me, it does and you’ll know what do to.
4.) advocate for yourself. If you aren’t learning the way you need to or aren’t being taught properly, say something
5.) you don’t need to be a perfectionist. Trust me, you’ll try at first but will give up at it really quickly
6.) (and you didn’t hear this) you can shove 2 ventis and 3 grandes into a blender. Don’t get caught
7.) once you learn the basics, making different drinks becomes easy. Ex: once you know a latte, sauce and syrup lattes are really easy
8.) it’s okay to make mistakes. Don’t stress over them. Just remake the drink.
9.) I think this might be the most important, ask for help. If you need it or don’t understand something or whatever other reason, ask for help.
10.) your fellow baristas will be your biggest help. If you don’t remember how to make something, ask another barista
11.) a personal thing I learned the hard way, don’t cover other peoples shifts. They will tell you they will cover one of yours but never will.
Good luck, and remember, breath.

Hi y’all! A quick update: my supervisor legit pulled me aside and asked if I suffer from anxiety because of how seriously I’ve been taking this haha. I don’t, but it made me realize how normalized verbal abuse has become to me in my other jobs. Been doing my best to breathe.
I love working at my sbux location though. Thankfully all my coworkers are so cool and nice and I’m proud of how fast I’ve gotten into the routines! Honest to god, this job has been a godsend for my mental health.
Thank y’all for your advice, I just wanted to let ya know that it helped and that I’m happy.
