updating my resume - help! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by fionalemon
hello friends! I'm looking for a little advice. I started working at Starbucks during college and I graduated in December. I figure it's about time to update my resume and start looking for jobs in my field of study (biology). Does anyone have tips for making my starbies experience relevant? If it helps, I was a barista for 1 year and 1 month, and SSV for the past 5 months. pls help

i think there’s a lot of things learned at starbs you could put in your “skills” section, like ability to lead a team in a dynamic environment (SSV specific), remaining calm during high-stress work periods, thinking out of the box to solve problems (i’m sure u could think up some concrete examples for interview purposes), ability to work on several things at once, great memorization skills, organizational skills, etc. i’m not sure which direction you’re taking your biology career, but if it has anything to do with working with the public then obviously you can flex your superior customer service skills (something like “working directly with customers/clients to ensure satisfaction and good representation of the employer”). if i think of anything else i’ll come back to this post, but i hope this gives you a good starting point! best of luck with the job search :)

There are a ton of resources online to help “translate your experience” I’m not sure how relevant for biology expect maybe highlighting the organizational aspects of the job
