It’s not about you. It’s about not wanting to walk around with a cup that has your name spelled wrong. They don’t want it spelled in a special way, they want it spelt the way their mother named them. I never understood why people got bent out of shape for people spelling their name. I always appreciated it so I didn’t have to play a guessing game or ask them how to spell it. I would rather we not put names on the cup period then spell someone’s name wrong, but I know I’m in the minority here and this is why I just mobile order and don’t deal with my misspelled name.

I totally agree with you. I like it when someone spells their name. I usually wait to see if they are going to use their App first so I don’t have to ask their name though. That’s so much easier.

Yes! So much easier when it pulls in!!!

I think that Starbucks wants to personalize the transaction so that someone is more than what’s in their cup.

That’s the only part you are thinking about. We don’t just write it on the cup or print it on the sticker and take that back off. It’s on their cup the entire time they drink it. Yes the reason we ask is so we can personalize their experience and distinguish their drink, but that name stays on the cup.

Like I get it, when we are doing 80-100+ transactions every half during peak I put the name in as I thought unless they specified, but I almost always asked how they spelled their name outside of peak (except drive through, I hated when we started putting their name in for drive through and rarely asked). That was part of the personalized experience and customer connection though for me. I would still spell it if they told me though no matter what.

I’m just saying from the other side, it’s really annoying to have your name spelled wrong when you have to walk around with that cup all day, especially if I take the time to spell it for you. But I deal, I just hate when people give me attitude for spelling my name to them.

They don't spell their names because they think you care so much as because they care that their name is spelled right.

And I'll say since they care, it'd be nice if you did too.

Or when they insist on spelling out their name but it’s an incredibly simple straight forward name that you wouldn’t need help spelling to begin with.

Like “Cindy” or “Bob” it’s happened with “Iris” too.

Like thanks but your name ain’t complicated, I got this lol

I gotta say, I've accidentally misspelled some names like this because I heard them wrong. They might have encountered someone like me who messed it up and that's why they do that.

I can see that possibility for sure!

If they don’t want their name spelled incorrectly then get the app and scan it

It doesn't matter If your name ends in a Y, an E or an I, just take your Frappuccino Brandi/y/ie.
