TW: transphobia and harassment. Is this enough to go to hr or district manager?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cryptidhex
So me and multiple partners at my store are trying to go to SOMEONE about our stores manager because things just keep getting worse and worse. Not really sure where to go, we might be able to talk to the DM soon but apparently things either happen or they don’t with her.
I have a whole list of things that have happened below: - Calls people with autism or other learning disorders “ special children “ - Does not respect trans/nonbinary partners pronouns even with knowing them and having been talked to. - When asked to respect pronouns has either said that had to earned or asked to not be corrected because it’s “too hard” - Allows a partner who has been known to sexually harass other partners to work with no consequences or even talking to. - Has told partners that their medication ( both for mental and hrt purposes ) makes them worse. - Has taken a disabled partners agreed accommodation away without providing a replacement accommodation and without speaking to them. - Asks inappropriate questions to trans partners. - Has multiple times not told partners they have recently worked with a partner that has tested positive for covid.

I would for sure go to partner resources and HR, that behavior is not acceptable at all.

Ok agreed but in the meantime set boundaries with this manager. You don’t even have to be the person the comment is directed at you can just say “I’m not sure this conversation is appropriate for work” or “I’m uncomfortable with this conversation”. It will be awkward at first but it will shut their ass down while you wait for DM intervention. Also with the trans partners, I would just refuse to answer/acknowledge any instructions that aren’t using the correct name and pronoun. If my manager says ‘she’s getting xyz’ but I’m a guy… he must not be talking about me 🤷
I am really sorry and I hope this gets resolved quickly. Starbucks is a trans hotspot cuz of the healthcare and should stay that way!!!

yeah, i know some people have tried talking to her and telling her they weren’t comfortable with the topic before but it will just get brought up again a different time. i’m just hoping everything dies through with the DM at this point

Anyone in your store who is concerned should contact ethics and compliance. This behavior is grounds for immediate termination. 1-800-611-7792.

Call ethics and compliance. That's an issue that needs attention immediately. You need to start a paper trail. Document, document, document. Times, places, everything. Statements from partners. Any and everything you can think of. THEN fill your DM in. They will also get a call as part of the investigation. I'm sorry that happened.
