Does a kind and positive barista/co-worker make a difference in your eyes? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I know there is a heck of a lot of things to complain about…. Everything from the entitled customers, or inpatient “gotta get somewhere”customers, to the “where is my order”, etc… I know there is a lot to complain about. BUT does anyone else feel like when the barista is consistently mean/insulting the customers while on bar/insulting their drink choices…. Etc Does anyone else get tired or working with these baristas? I mean it’s hard enough to keep a positive attitude and be kind to the customers but when you have negative frustrated, angry, or down right mean co-workers… I just feel frustrated working with others who basically say they don’t like people.. I don’t understand? Why do they chose a service industry? I just don’t want to turn into someone who does that and these co-workers are not long term employees. They are really new employees. And their negativity is toxic. Sorry for the rant. Im not sure if I’m making any sense. I appreciate having a place I can say this. Are there any other “wanting to be positive and kind to customers and co-workers” people out there??

no yeah it totally brings my mood down having a coworker who is so obviously and outwardly negative, to the point where i dread going in those days because i just have to deal with tht attitude for the next few hours. you don’t have to love your job, that’s fine, but to be continuously negative at work in an environment where it’s already stressful is not helpful whatsoever

I have a coworker like this. When she's in a good mood, it's great! We chat and hang out and have a great time! When she's in a bad mood, it's HORRIBLE. She yells, snaps, slams things. The other day I was serving a customer and asked her to pull her mask up, and coworker came over and snapped at her rudely, before she could even respond to me. Obviously the customer was pissed, and she was mad at *me??* Come on man 😭

Nothing ruins a shift like other baristas that complain a lot and are impatient and negative.

Nothing makes a shift more fun than other baristas that are upbeat, friendly, optimistic, and kind.

Completely agree! Thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone!

i hope no one from my store sees this but there are some partners that immediately come to mind when i read this post. one of them continuously makes it a joke that their whole family has covid, one of them came through the drive thru the other day and they just joked about it. not to mention how messy they are, it’s like they were never really trained to clean up after themselves and manage their area on bar. it’s this lack of self awareness, disgusting work area, and nasty ass attitude that makes me sooo tired of working with these partners. i have expressed my discomfort with the managers and haven’t really worked with them recently bc they have diff availability now (thank the LOOORDD). i also can’t stand when people just outright shit on people for their drink choices. sometimes it’s warranted but sometimes it just isn’t… it’s so annoying. my favorite night shift and i like talking about it and i’m glad i have people that agree with me about people with that type of attitude.

i definitely agree. me and my fellow baristas do our fair share of comparing but we usually do it lightheartedly and joking. it’s definitely hard to stay positive in such a hectic place though.

Yes 🙌🏼. Lighthearted complaining while supporting each other and just plain having fun at the ridiculousness of the job sometime is uplifting and helps to destress. What gets me down is the other side of that which is the angry/mean complaining.

Yes my trainer was an absolute bitch and is still a bitch as a coworker but for some reason everyone likes her even though she talks shit about everyone

Omg yes. Like I’m fine with venting…but if it carries on the whole shift? Yeah no
