Dress code crackdown (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lioness21x
Is anyone noticing their SSVs start to crack down on dress code? Our store went from hoodies and color to following it a lot closer. They also are a little wary with colored bandannas and earrings, which is my whole little thing. So, I’m a little more concerned than most, lmao.

Honestly the dress code was much stricter. When I started in 2013 it was black or khaki pants only and collared shirts in only black or white. No visible tattoos or unnaturally colored hair. When I have new partners come in and complain that they can’t wear a hoodie, or distressed denim and crop tops I just roll my eyes.

When I met with my SM I was told that all stores were cracking down on dress code. I’m really missing those sweatshirts now that it’s actually cold here.

Not at all 😂 our SM didn’t even have a disposable mask on the other day so I’m just waiting to see how long that even lasts at my store.

My SM just posted in our group chat the dress code. It sucks.

They're cracking down a little at my store, but not enough TBH. I'm tired of being told to mind my business when a shift says "yeah you're in dress code" and I point out that the shoes the partner is wearing are absolutely not dress code because of mesh/cloth tops.

A year or two ago, our SM was wearing mesh top sneakers when making a 195 degree chai latte, and she spilled it directly on her foot. She was lucky not to have been burned worse than she was.

Every time I bring it up when discussing dress code, I'm told "WELL I'M NOT GONNA SPILL SO..."

So yeah. Honestly, when it comes to other dress code things, I keep my mouth shut unless asked. I'm not a shift. I'm trying to mind my own business. But the shoe thing is a safety hazard. Plus, those sneakers aren't slip-resistant. I'm not trying to be a nitpicky asshole for calling people out on it; I'm honestly trying to prevent injuries.

Phew.

I'd like to be able to wear patterned skirts though. I have super comfy dresses that are like black t-shirts up top and on the bottom are black with floral patterns. I've also got a navy blue shirt with some rainbow stripes on it that aren't too big or eye-grabbing, which I'd also like to wear. 🤷‍♀️

Slip resistant isn’t even required funnily enough

I guess it's pretty tough to tell just by looking, so I can see why it wouldn't be a solid requirement.

Plus I once bought a pair of shoes that were supposedly slip resistant, but they absolutely were not.

Also haha oops, in my previous comment, I probably should've worded it a little less aggressively. Something more like "I've noticed that too, but I wish they'd focus on the safety-related parts rather than color palette"

It’s “strongly recommended”

Probably so people don’t do it and then they can get out of paying if you slip and get hurt 🙃
