Customer Connection (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hfgkvjf
I don’t mind the customer connection whatsoever because for the most part, I do enjoy talking to people but i honestly can’t stand how much this company pushes for us to customer connect and “get them scores up” just for the simple fact that when you’re actually at the window taking people’s payments, you can tell which people do wanna have a conversation and which ones just want to get their shit and gtfo of the drive thru and go on about their day. I wish there was something else that could be done to emphasize this to corporate because I’m tired of getting my ass chewed out by my SL when I’m not connecting w customers that clearly don’t want to talk.

The whole system is messed up. If you don’t get a perfect score, it counts as zero. Like imagine the amount of people that could be scoring just one or 2 under and it counts as nothing, it’s ridiculous. I wish it was more accurate

I wish they’d update their system because the scores seem like bs to me at this point and the fact that people are giving us more lower scores (at least from my location) based on the fact that we’re out of so much stuff and these people think that we’re hiding shit from them in the back or something.

this is so true, my stores cc score has gone down by like 10-15 all because we’ve been out of cups and milks. like we can’t control of our shipment comes in or not and half of the customers are so pissed even when we try to make the moment right

It’s the same for us at my location but w the medicine balls. Almost every other order is for a medicine ball and we get chewed out for the fact that we don’t have a sign in the drive thru that says that we’re out of it because now they have to “wait in this stupid line” and we tell them that we can’t put a sign because of corporate (at least that’s what my SM and SL tell me)

I’m so over it. Idk what they want us to do. Like we can talk to customers and shit in window and be perfect and the customers will still leave us a bad connection review. My store averages a 35 and we can’t improve it no matter what.

I feel you! Ours fluctuates like the morning gets higher scores than night because we have less staff and we usually have someone doubling down on DTO so we can’t really do customer connection as much as we’d like, and they’ve been getting on our asses about it like what do you guys want us to do? If it’s such an issue then have more people at night. There’s literally like about 20 people in the morning, at least 1/2 people per station so literally nobody is even leaving from their post.
The_tired_barista 2 points 1y ago
Legit! Like morning crew at my store has 10 people. Night crew has 3 if we are lucky.
hfgkvjf [OP] 2 points 1y ago
3?! Oh fuck no especially w all the fucking cleaning too. We have I wanna say at least 15-20 people in the morning and at night it goes down to 6 and then by closing time it’s 4, 1 shift lead and then 3 baristas just doing all the cleaning/restocking and we have a drive thru too so it’s a pain in the ass trying to close down drive at a certain time because when we put our sign, people will move it like it’s fucking funny.
The_tired_barista 3 points 1y ago
If we are really lucky, we have 2 minors and 2 adults on clean play nights. What always pisses me off is when am doesn’t restock or take trash out or do anything when they have all these people so when we are closing we have all of our normal tasks plus all of their tasks. Like we are running around like chickens without a fucking head. And then our SM gets pissed at us for getting out late.

It’s like this in every industry. Truth be told, just hit the marks of your greeting them, thanking them, and using their name. If they don’t want to talk you’ll be better off. I’ve butted heads with managers at every single job I’ve ever had over this.
hfgkvjf [OP] 7 points 1y ago
I understand that. I just don’t like prying into people’s business if that makes sense idk it feels awkward to me to ask people like “what do you have planned for today?” type of stuff but I get ya
defendpoppunk77 6 points 1y ago
Yeah I’ve never been good at that. It’s always awkward and forced. The best way I make connections is a genuine compliment or going out of your way to remember someone every time they come in. I love complimenting girls on their nails because if they just got them done they’re so happy to show them off or if they’re old they’re happy that they still look good before their next appointment. If I have a customer I see all the time and I don’t remember their name I make a point so say I’ll remember it and then do.
hfgkvjf [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Oooo yes that’s what I do too! I like completing the girls w their makeup/nails/brows or I’ll just throw in that “have a great rest of your day” but you’re right I do remember a lot of customers for the most part, im jsut terrible w remembering names but for some reason I can remember their orders 😂

Tbh if you are just asking them one question and attempting I'm fine with it. Like compliment them, notice something about them. If they have a puppy or baby it's 1000 times easier. Because you can ask them questions about the dog or offer a pup cup. I'd they are regulars you should already know something about them.

If it gets awkward and you're in a cold climate just say "it's really cold today I'm gonna close the window until your order comes in stay warm!" Lmao

Had this happen to me during my training. A customer was obviously just on their phone doing their own thing so I decided to let them be until the drinks were made and I got chewed to do the whole customer connection thing after they watched me do it with 90% of the other customers
No____facex 1 points 1y ago
Wait they actually score us on customer connection? How?
