Just why? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by The_tired_barista
So a few days ago, I started to experience Covid symptoms, texted my sm that I have to isolate and called my store to inform them, got a lot of crap for it from my ssv and was made to feel like shit. Today (or rather yesterday. It’s after 2am rn) my father, who I live with, tested positive on an at home test and I went and got tested. My SM gave me a hard time saying Starbucks doesn’t accept at home tests and blah blah blah. Like great. But he’s still positive. And I live with him. So this making it a very serious possibility that I’m positive. I swear my SM and ssv would absolutely love it if we could come in sick. Am I in the wrong for informing my SM that I was exposed and had symptoms?

Edit: I tested positive

Where I am they can't ask for proof of a positive result. I can just say I tested positive and they have to believe me. For me, I live with someone who tested positive and it was just a matter of time. When I started getting symptoms, I didn't bother getting tested (cause it was clearly covid) because the lines for testing g were over 6 hours long. I basically told them I tested positive.

Call the ethics hotline if you feel so inclined. Cooperate has a very strong stance on symptomatic partners not coming into work. Something about not getting their asses sued off.

No this was and is 100% correct to do. Unfortunately some SMs make their workers come in sick. My sister had this problem when she worked at starbucks. Your SSVs should not be making you feel bad about it though cause everyone gets sick at one point. Trust me when I say your fellow baristas will thank you for keeping your SM informed and staying home.

My store at one point had 3/4 of the staff out with Covid or exposure. It wasn’t fun. I would rather not be the reason more people are out.

I just had to clarify this with my district manager. Your SM is not being completely accurate.

The at-home tests aren't acceptable for putting coworkers on isolation. Example: you work Sunday with 2 partners. You take a bone rapid test that's positive. They can still work. If you get a PCR at the pharmacy that's positive, then the coworkers had an official exposure.

(I also have the covid coach bookmarked on my phone. We can read it from home at any time and all the definitions are in there)

I'd tell them unless they wanna pay for a dr visit for another test they better take the at home result. Pretty sure some locations can't even demand a dr note for things anymore.
