I learn something new everyday (self.starbucksbaristas)

Idk I feel like I was not trained properly cause I’m finding out new shit all the time. I found out a couple of days ago that we’re supposed to put classic in the strawberry creme frappuccino?!? there’s plenty of baristas at my store who don’t even put the cinnamon in the oatmilk shaken espresso. we also just discovered that we’re supposed to be using the nitro lids for drinks with cold foam. I feel like we’re doing everything wrong at this point. I don’t really care honestly lmao I don’t get paid enough to beg these people to give the proper training. just curious if this is common knowledge or if it’s just our store

Nope our store is the same, our "training" is being thrown into the chaos - its either sink or swim. Ngl I guess the recipe from basic knowledge half the time bc the shifts leads get upset whenever I tell them I'm not fully trained on bar bc they think I'm just trying to get out of it and the others on bar are trying to keep afloat themselves.

no fr omg I remember when I had only been trained on register and the afternoon shift would throw me on bar even when I told him I had NOT been trained. so I had to recall the video trainings and bombard him with questions. never did the coffee tastings or anything. so basically I kinda taught myself

No because SAME. And it's awful. Literally last week I found out the classic pumps in the strawberry frap are 1 2 2, not the normal 2 3 4 ☹☹but the matcha frap gets the normal 2 3 4??? Like what is the point of all this confusing variation in drinks??
joe_mama84 5 points 1y ago
Full pumps of any syrup get 1, 2, 2.

Half pumps (cold bar pumps) get 2, 3, 4. This applies for all syrups.

Actually Fickle_Image_5836 is correct. These 2 Frappuccinos are the only exceptions to this rule. The Green Tea Frappuccino gets 2/3/4 Hot Bar pumps of Classic syrup, while the Strawberries and Cream Frappuccino gets the standard 1/2/2 Hot bar pumps of Classic syrup.
joe_mama84 2 points 1y ago
I suppose you mean the Green Tea Frappuccino is the only exception? Because every single holiday drink during the year gets 1/2/2 because these are full pumps (hot bar). For example, my kiosk is to small to have cold bar and hot bar syrups, so we only have hot bar syrups, meaning we have to do 1/2/2 for every drink (with the exception of the green tea frap).

Would be better if it’s 1 2 3

The strawberry cremes get classic?!?
Sea-Refrigerator3790 [OP] 7 points 1y ago
LITERALLY WHAT I SAID. cause a customer was complaining about how it wasn’t sweet enough and “too tart” and our shift asked if we put classic in it. everyone was confused

🤣🤣 Love it.

I’m genuinely laughing because we have a lot of 6 months-1.5 yearish partners at my store now & we had the same situation just this past Friday. But, my lead (7+ year partner) put 2 new beans on bar & myself (going on 5 years) at support for peak. Reminder, there were other partners who can bar like their life depends on it but it was Friday & call me psycho; however I love Friday peaks

Anyways, peak that day was tough because the new partners kept messing up & mixing up drinks. This one lady though came in from drive thru pissed & cussed my lead out quickly complaining about her daughter’s frapp “taste like ass in the Death Valley sun” 😂🤣 (wasn’t high enough for that comparison) & she complained about her bagel not being overly burnt but I digress on that part.

So my lead tasted it & her face said it all. She had me taste it in the back & tries to accuse me of training them improperly, but I just came back from my unofficial leave of absence the same day this particular incident happened so can’t be me. She’s goes out to the bar & asked the new partners about the drinks. Damn when I said their faces got ghost white when they learned that classic was supposed to go in the drink 🤣🤣. I died on the floor up front because not only was their reaction priceless but I love seeing new partners mess up. That’s how ya learn.

But I’m glad you know now so the kiddies don’t have to experience “ass in the Death Valley sun” 🤣😂😭

my store used to have a few signature beverage recipe cards at every station then they slowly started to disappear and when someone asks how to make a drink they just make us look at the register pos 😐 training has really gone downhill since we all have to look it up online or wing it

Are you at a corporate or licensed store?
Sea-Refrigerator3790 [OP] 4 points 1y ago
ngl I have no idea lol. are there any indicators or would I have to ask to know?
adventur3unknown 5 points 1y ago
Is your store just a Starbucks or is it a Starbucks kiosk inside another store? If it's just a Starbucks then it's corporate
Sea-Refrigerator3790 [OP] 8 points 1y ago
ohhhh I see. now I feel stupid haha. yeah it’s a corporate store
Comprehensive-Gate94 3 points 1y ago
Not me not knowing this 😳
SKSM10 3 points 1y ago
It’s funny that a lot of partners now don’t know about classic in strawberry frapps. My trainer(now manager) helped me remembered by telling me thats what give it its sweet, strawberry candy taste. Without it, taste like a watered down strawberry milk & no kids like watered down anything.

Also with the strawberry frapp, you’re supposed to pour a little strawberry purée in the cup before the blended contents, but a lot of stores near my area stopped doing that because of the little extra step 🤣😂

fixing the knowledge gap is pretty easy it just starts out with someone just going ham on the store resources iPad app, consuming all the knowledge, and vomiting it to everyone else around them. they may not like the standard vomiting partner, but everyone will be better for it

I’m a returning partner of 3 years and I JUST found out I’ve been making iced matchas with the wrong milk 😂 also no one warned me the Irish cream recipe changed from when it was first launched and my ass wasn’t making that right either this year 🤷🏼‍♀️
Necessary_Low939 2 points 1y ago
Well most trainers don’t know everything. One that I saw that was obnoxious was they said to put milk to the first line of a frap and pump the frap roast inside the blender. What in tarnation is that? Does it make such a difference? No but it’s not correct lol.
