Refill Policy? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Actual_Ad_4619
Does anyone else’s store give customers refills every time they come in regardless if they stay or not? For Ex: A regular customer comes through drive through for a tea refill and it’s the first time you saw them that day, do you redeem the refill?

I obviously know it’s against policy but I have seen 3 SMs do it at the stores I’ve worked at.

Thank you for letting me know! Here’s my follow up question- is that a personal choice or is it your store policy?

Not refilling through the drive thru is corporate policy. We can do refills on a same day, same visit basis. Drive thru is not same visit. If they leave the store, it is not same visit. I know a lot of people still do it (hell sometimes I’m to tired to put up a fight and just do it), but it is corporate policy to not do a refill through the drive thru. I hope this helps!

Really? The part about no refills through drive thru is very new to me because we do it constantly. Thank you for informing me. I guess my store is just too focused on “making the moment right”.

No when the person cups were allowed again it was specifically stated not for drive thru. And refills are always the same visit… had a lady get upset with me and ask did they change the policy. Because near the end of my shift she shows up and I haven’t seen her at all let alone the patio and cafe being completely empty. I explained to her I can’t just give her a refill. Storms out as I tell her (honestly but confused/shocked) to have a good day. Turns around, mocks me, turns again and runs into the wet floor sign XD

I personally just give people refills bc I don’t care that much about putting up a fight but other people in my district(not my store) do put my a small fight per my dm. He basically says that you should always make the moment right and give the refill but let them know it’s actually agains policy for the future
Actual_Ad_4619 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
That’s pretty similar to my store’s policy except we never bring up the policy to customers unfortunately
CapableArtist123 7 points 1y ago
I don’t because of the DM is in store and I give a refill at the window best believe I would get yelled at. It’s only for people who stay inside true store.

Interestingly enough, I got told to “just do it” by mine on my first shift at my current store.

Yikes….. 😬😬
annaxzhen 3 points 1y ago
We’re not allowed to anymore because of coronavirus, and before that it was only if you stayed inside the store premises. Had someone throw an epic tantrum about it a few days ago!

I just say yes and move on if it’s an every day thing then I might try to talk to them , it’s not worth the hassle and we’re supposed to make it right in the moment and explain the policy for future purchases

Thank you for the advice!

yes i do because its not coming out my paycheck like some people here seem to think it does and i really dont feel like arguing with a 50 year old man over like 2 dollars
Actual_Ad_4619 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
True but my flaw is I like arguing lol. Appreciate the candor though!

The official policy is only if they stay in the store. With covid that was modified since we aren’t taking cups back anyways so generally, if we see people who we’ve already seen today or there’s a way to verify they were already there today we’ll give them the refill. You’d rather keep the customer happy than create an argument. You aren’t losing anything because as long as you ring it up properly you still get the correct labor allocations.

If someone comes in and buys one drink then asks for the refill for that drink I’ll do it every time unless they’re absolutely horrible to me. Starbucks makes the big bucks idc about giving nice people free drinks
Actual_Ad_4619 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Complete get that sentiment but most of the customers that I have strong arm their way into getting it everyday and every time
TH00TN00T 2 points 1y ago
No I get it, and in your case it sounds like they’re coming in for just a refill and not paying right? I wouldn’t do that cuz that just seems unreasonable
Actual_Ad_4619 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I wouldn’t either but it’s been the norm at my store so ig I’ll just go with it. Thank you for the encouragement though!
