(kinda) guilted a lady into tipping us (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ellectre
she orders a $5 something latte. pulls up to the window and hands me a $20 bill and a $1 bill, doesnt say ANYTHING. if people hand me a single $1 bill and dont say anything i will assume they’re tipping but i always ask just in case. so i count the change and while handing it to her, i ask, “was this for the tip jar?”

“no i actually wanted three $5 bills.” she literally said nothing, sorry but i can’t read your mind..

i offer to give her the 3 $5 bills she wanted and she goes no! it’s okay you can keep that for yourself. so then she drives off and im standing there with that $1 bill like 🕴

I feel like whenever I ask if it’s for a tip the answer is no, but whenever I *don’t* ask if it’s for a tip (to prevent guilting them) they say “that bill was for you” when I hand it back and then i feel stupid 😭

They usually tell me they want no singles when they do that. That customer is just weird. No need to feel bad p

Oh god, I made a joke "Thanks for your two cents" with a wink ;)
And the lady went "I'm sorry that was all the cash I had".

I was just making a joke. ;_;

Ok is it weird that I feel bad for getting mad whenever they hand me their chump change and or $1 for a tip? Like I feel selfish every time like I’m being greedy and I feel so bad 😂

Usually if a drink is like $5.64 (or something), customer pays with a $20 and adds $1. Total is $21 in the system. So customers usually wants $15 in bills (like 3 $5 or 1$10+1$5) and the change. Its a rare occurrence but a few ppl do it at other establishments as well.

I flustered this guy once (he was super tall and had like this alt bad boy look going on & I was dressed alt ish too) because I was explaining how to order his drink so did didn't get a completely different drink because ik what he was trying to order but it could be taken as a completely different drink. Just trying to be nice and make sure he wasn't paying for something he didn't like. After that I went to do his drink. He took the drink once I was done making it and walk away clumsily and briskly. I go back to the computer and saw a 20$ bill in the tip jar. I stood there confused until my coworker asked what was wrong. She saw the 20 and I explained what happened before I saw the tip.

She str8 up said, "You should fluster people more often." 😏

LIKE I WAS DOING IT ON PURPOSE??? SORRY????
