Applying to become a shift(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by GGspumpkin
I am currently in the process of applying to become a shift. I’ve been working for Starbucks for about a year now so I’m looking for any advice to prepare for the interview and make a good impression. Anything helps :)

I worked at Starbucks for a year before becoming a shift. I remember being asked why I wanted to become a shift, what I like about Starbucks as a company, and what my favorite customer experience was. Other than that the questions are pretty generic.
I said I wanted to be a shift because I was the most tenured barista at my store and wanted to take on more responsibilities, and I think my managers really liked that response.
Good Luck!

Just went through this! I’d say definitely keep a record of all the times you coach your own ssvs/asm/sm and use those examples in the interview. They’ll probably ask what you’ve done for the team as a barista so go into detail about how you’ve trained someone x way instead of y way others do to achieve certain outcomes.
As a shift, you’re gonna be a glorified barista who takes the blame and has to be the bearer bad news to your baristas, e.g., coaching. Touch on how you’re ready to deal with interpersonal conflict and use Starbucks lingo! When coaching, you’re supposed to use the what/what/why model so maybe throw in an example of how you’d correct someone who’s adamant that Starbucks standards don’t apply to them.

Wait, there's an interview!? I don't remember having to go through this

I went through two separate interviews. First with my SM and then with a separate SM from another store so that no bias was conducted during my interview with my SM. It’s been a long road but fingers crossed I get the position!
