Hours getting cut majorly (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sh3nan1gans_
So mine and several others hours are getting cut drastically. I’ve went from working 35-40 hours a week to now 25-30. I get it’s not holidays any more and we aren’t as busy, but it’s kind of a struggle for myself and most of my partners. My manager tries to give us the hours but their DM gets mad at them for it and makes them cut more and more. One partner was saying that it’s because many people signed up for the insurance, and they wanna cut the hours so they can’t maintain it. Because I know you have to keep up so many hours a period to keep the insurance. I don’t wanna have to leave and find a new job cuz I thoroughly love this job and the people I work with! And I can’t maintain two jobs right now.. is anyone else going through a similar situation or have insight?

It’s probably bc if the pay raises that are going around rn. Starbucks (despite being a multi billion (yes with a b) dollar company) likes to fuck over the little guy and try to cut corners to save even more money (even though they just raised the prices again). The only thing you really can do is take all the shifts you can to cover and even see if other stores need someone to cover.

I'm guessing my manager was being a little too forthcoming but apparently Corporate just ordered all US stores to "schedule no more than 41 hours of non-coverage per week". Pretty safe assumption this is to encourage many disgruntled partners to jump ship allowing them to fill stores with new hires much less likely to vote for a *certain movement* that is currently gaining steam in US stores

What movement? Sorry I’m a barista who has literally been told nothing

I cant go to ASU now. There isn’t enough hours to give me up to the deadline they set for me

I feel that, I can’t do ASU either cuz I don’t even get the hours for it. Luckily in my state when you turn 24 you can have two years of college for free which is really helpful, so I’ll resort to that more than likely

20 hours a week is all you need for ASU or benefits

Oh my manager told me different then

Sometimes you can’t hit that though. Some of my co workers that were hired at 25-27 hours a week have 13-15 hours now aberage

It’s Bc a lot of the stores nation wide including mine are not hitting 0% on labor which is what we want if it’s higher than 0% it means that x store is paying its workers more than the store is making…. Basically your manager is tryna get that back down to 0% of anything close to it so that they can keep their job and they’re cutting hours to do so… Another thing to keep in mind is that during holiday season and summer where I live are higher velocity times where your store undoubtedly makes more money which is why you’ll be scheduled more hours. I think your SM is doing the best they can with the limited amount of hours they have to give out so don’t be to hard on them

The percentage can fluctuate to an extent, zero percent is like straight profit, I imagine its varies from location to location but zero percent is like straight profit over OHC

I went from 38 hours to 16 hours…

I went from 40hrs a week to 0 and my manager laughed it off when they told me.

It’s an insane amount of hours to lose in my opinion. I really hate this and im surprised it’s not just my city.. it’s everywhere :/

I was told it was because of January being the highest number of covid cases and it meant they had to pay the 5 days of covid for that person and every one who had a shift with them. And on top of all the snow days too. They were apparently in the negatives so now they're trying to negate that especially with the raises coming up and it not being in a peak season. Literally the VP of the company is checking schedules now so the managera can't do much about it. Hopefully it's fixed when the numbers roll out at the end of this quarter in like 2 weeks or something.
