Name tag rant (short) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by nastykaren
Recently we’ve had a lot of corporate/DM/RM presence at our store. The newest “change” happening is that we are really getting harped on (threatened to be written up) for not wearing name tags or having a different name on the name tag (we would sometimes put jokes, or fake names). I mean call me entitled, but I don’t think it should be necessary to put my name on a name tag for me to stand at drive bar all day. I also find it completely unnerving that after having people 1. Find baristas on social media and proceed to harass them and 2. Have people airdrop inappropriate messages/images to baristas on the floor, i am told I’m a bad partner for not wanting my name on my name tag. I don’t think name tags are essential to what we do and it shouldn’t be that fucking big of a deal to put a fake name. Ugh.

yeah this is the cool thing about being trans and having a different name lol….it is not at all tied to my legal name 🥲

For real, as far as I know, no one at my store knows my deadname except for my SM. So that’s one thing sbux has done right in my book

Starbucks is so shitty and controlling of a company. For safety reasons, you should absolutely be able to put a different name on your name tag

I get so mad when a customer who is trying to be condescending to me (or racist) is able to look down and see my nametag and repeat my name to me and use it in a harassing way. I don’t wear my nametag cause im one of the few POC in my store and it got tiring of customers purposefully being rude to me. My store supports me and lets me go without it.

Not once in my life have I looked at an employees name tag. If we’re pushing customer connections so heavy, why should I even need one? They already know me bc we connected sooo hard

My name is very uniquely spelled... one google search of my first name and the county I live in will show my social media profiles... I spell my name a different way to avoid this on my name tag that will not change still the same pronunciation of the name but not the same spelling

I’m so grateful my sm isn’t pushy on this. We all have kitchen appliances on our name tags. I’m dish washer and my sm is airfryer 😂

Lol, my coworkers and I will sometimes wear each other’s name tags to be funny. I hate when DMs nitpick shit.

Thankfully my SM respects the fact that I have a different name on my name tag. It's very similar to my actual name but different enough that no one can find me on social media or anything.

I got yelled at when mine is literally sewed on. 🥰

NOPE! Dealt with way too many creeps to wear my name tag. I was thinking that if I’m forced to wear it I’ll just put my Starbucks partner number, since I’m just a number to the company.

How do people airdrop baristas on the floor? I thought your phone had to be open to be able to accept airdrops, and you can turn off the setting that lets people not in your contacts airdrop you.

There was a partner who forgot that their phone was set to ‘anyone can airdrop.’ Obviously a one-time thing, but still really shifts the way some of us see our relationship to the customers.
