Why are Sunday’s cursed? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Came in to a broken espresso machine, & two shakers stuck together, leaving us with only one, on a Sunday. We tried for like 2 hours to “unstick” them! A customer even tried! he was like “you’ve stumped me, I’m usually the guy who Can open the pickle jar…” We soaked it in ice water, tried banging it on things and decided that even if we broke the inside one at least we would have one… well that didn’t work. So then I hammered at bread knife in-between the two, convinced that breaking the seal would unstick them… it didn’t, and then we couldn’t get the knife out… and then it broke… also our mop sink overflowed because a piece of cardboard had been stuck in the drain since last night and no one noticed…

The only way I've ever been able to pull them apart is with a pair of pliers.

All you have to do is put a scoop of ice in the inside shaker, and stick the bottom one in a pitcher of hot water. The Temperature difference is enough to get them apart.

That was actually the first thing we did, and it didn’t work… we then just tried soaking it in straight ice water, but neither thing worked

I’ve never not had this work. But soaking in ice water alone won’t do much because both shakers are being affected by the cold. Using hot water on the outer one expands it slightly, while the ice inside keeps the inner one more constricted. I will say that it sometimes doesn’t work immediately and you need to leave it sitting in the hot water for a minute (I usually use a steaming pitcher about half full from the brewer tap).

Yeah, that was the first thing my shift tried… I don’t know why I’d didn’t work… it was like something was sticky inside… I asked her “do you think someone would think it would be funny to glue this together?”

When I got the pliers it started taking pieces off lol, because at that point the inside one was already creaked 😬
