The labor shortages killed what love I had left for this job. I work at a busy store that barely stayed afloat anyway and we have been removed an additional partner every day.
By the way, was everyones manager told they needed to cut hours or just some districts? We all know Starbucks made 30 billion dollars last year. Thats basically how much money every Marvel movie ever made, combined.
What made starbucks work really awesome was that a lot of us already had careers and we *chose* to work at starbucks because it was highly enjoyable. I hope every qualified partner with a degree goes ahead and quits with me. Lets see them run the floor with only young people who cant balance work/school life.
When my partners arrive all bubbly and happy and I have to put them on oven or bar where its just 7 hours straight of *work as fast as you can but keep it clean!* energy, it kills me to see them look so dead inside a few hours later. And I cant switch them to another position because other partners are too new to bar or oven or there just isnt any position that is easier for them to regroup. Its like a wave of sad anxiety just washing over the shores of our cafe, every, single, day.
Now, once again, morning crew fights night crew and night crew fights morning crew. But its not their fault. Its Starbucks' fault. What happened to 8 partner plays??
Someone I work with told me she checked herself into a mental hospital and she met multiple baristas. This was the beginning of my end.. "to nurture the human spirit" they need to change their mission statement..
I cant handle this shit anymore. I grew up loving Starbucks but I will emphatically suggest we go drink coffee somewhere else for the rest of my life. I can get an espresso machine for my house. Fuck you Starbucks for making me feel like you dont give a shit about us. You know they get rated F every year on toxic plastics in food. They clearly also dont give a fuck about customwrs. My manager is sad the newbies are sad people are just fucking tired. And to make it worse they are trapped by carrot on a stick benefits. "wait til November and you can have $400 in stocks"
No more. I see through the bullshit now.
and dont even get me started how the most manipulative people get promoted fastest. so we all work under the least compassionate managers. people who enjoy bossing people around. that's who starbucks wants.

Do you work at my store? I’m dreading going into work tomorrow to do it all over again.

Agreed. Wholeheartedly. It's awful to see our baristas fucking destroyed after a shift. It's like watching a drowning ship..
The only thing that protects baristas mental health is not killing them with stress, adequate staffing, and considerate DISTRICT MANAGERS. Feeling that constant stress and emotion at work means you're 10x more likely to feel depressed at home, when you body isn't flowing with the adrenaline it's adapted to.
When I was new, I wasn't aware of the beef between nights and mornings. When they wrote shitty notes specifically aimed at things I did or didn't do, I took them to heart. I was prepared to quit. Now I stay because fuck them.
Having rivalries in this job is dumb, and it's completely stupid that it happens. This job crushes people's spirits, and they're subjected to abuse, and oftentimes have mental health issues at play as well. Sometimes nitpicking the coldbrew is just.. not that important.

Edit: for spelling
I’m an SSV and a barista at my store came across this post.. then sent me a txt asking me if I wrote it.
I feel like I am one of the few who are advocating for partners and stand on their side. Mind you I don’t let things slide with customers either and will take the blunt of the hit for my partners while remaining calm for everyone. Why are customers so intense anyhow?
I check in with partners, flex for the sake of sanity and refreshment for those on bar or stuck in the drive through. I may not always give 2nd tens, but I certainly always aim to and entirely disagree with the concept of “you must *earn* your ten, they are not required”
I heard a nearby store is unionizing. It was interesting to discover since I’ve only seen a few posts here and there about it. However here it was, only 17 minutes away from my own home store. I don’t know much about labor unions, but at the rate that this is all going, it’s starting to sound enticing.
That same store looking to unionize put a msg out through my SM looking for 7 shifts to be covered over the next two weeks. While at the same time, our hours are being cut drastically. Partners are taking a hit and it hurts to watch. I call corporate greed.

You have really valid points, really, but you trickle in little things that take away from it. For example the comment about plastics. That’s not entirely true. It’s toxic chemicals, not plastic. The comment about meeting other baristas in a mental hospital. Mmmm, we don’t know what put them there or if that’s entirely true. The “we all work for the least compassionate managers” comment is also just not true.
So while you have a great argument and solid passion, I’d beg you to not take away from your case by littering it with fallacies. I agree that labor is BS, it used to be fun and how draining it is now, the just overall sad feeling one has, the carrot effect, pay, etc. Those all speak to what we are all feeling right now, and thank you for speaking up.
Yeah, I pulled up that report card. We don’t disclose a lot which brings our score down. But kinda a shame that a company that prides itself in its environmental mission wouldn’t take a bigger stance. Right?
Our mission is to provide everyone with access to large- scale community websites for the good of humanity. Without ads, without tracking, without greed.
