Calling Starbucks employees “partners” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Own_Way5837
So my friend who works at a different store is polyamorous and I’ve realized i can never tell if they’re talking about work partners or romantic partners so is it just me or does it sound like every store is in a very large polyamorous relationship whenever we talk about our “partners” without context? “So I was talking to one of my partners…” always has me like wait😭

This exactly lol and the fact that it's called being "separated" from the store instead of being fired... just one big sbux relationship

If you work at Starbucks we’re dating I’m sorry I don’t make the rules

I just say co workers

Same. The only time I say partner is if I’m talking to another Starbucks employee.

I used to work in offices so I say “colleagues” just to spruce it up

I came to the realization the other day that you probably should run from a company that calls you anything other than employee after seeing a TikTok about the Disney parks and everyone was calling the workers “cast members” and it just felt absolutely ridiculous (especially knowing how Disney pays them). Unless you’re investing a bunch of money in a company or they pay you way above minimum wage (though that’s very industry dependent), “partner” is a red flag for me now.

Oh no it really is a red flag same with “team” and “this is a family”

Originally it was because we own company stock. Now no one stays long enough to get it. Another reason to keep turnover high :[

This is why I only say "baristas" or "shifts". I never call Starbucks people my partners. I'm nonbinary, so my preferred designation in relationships is "partner", and I'm honestly pretty salty about Starbucks coopting that from me.

Yeah as a nonbinary person myself I feel like it’s definitely watered down the term partner for me😕
