How does your store handle dress code? What do SM/SSV do to encourage dress code regulations?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I get spanked for minor infractions all the time. It's incredibly frustrating. I do my job, customers love me, I'm training kids almost everyday, but goddess forbid I'm wearing a pink long sleeve shirt!

I was a store manager for 10 years. The worst DM I ever had used to threaten “if I ever walk into your store and a partner is out of dress code, It’s a write up for you”
Even if I wasn’t working at the store that day

Depends on what it is, if someone comes in with say a hoodie, ripped jeans, a color out of dress code, we’ll let them know they’re out of dress code and if they can’t change we’ll let it slide for that day but only that day. If they’re a repeat offender or they have something against health code like nails, and the nails don’t come off it turns into a verbal coaching

my store doesn't care about dresscode
rainy-gray2 points1y ago
Same. We wear sweatpants, jackets with hoods, converse, light colored jeans, patterned tops. The dress code is so strict it's ridiculous.

I definitely think it’s out of dress code but my manager lets us wear leggings as long as we wear a shirt long enough to cover our butt… maybe this is the dress rule? But I think athletic leggings go against dress code anyways
Blondeeeelatte4 points1y ago
No, that’s allowed, if your butt is covered
dbldrm2 points1y ago
Technically should have the shirt/dress be no shorter than four inches above knee but its whatever

We have a new SM coming in this month and if she enforces this particular rule then at least half of the women I work with (myself included lol) will have to buy a whole new wardrobe 🥲

Oh man im sorry! Ya i had to buy a bunch of clothes when i started i had NOTHINg At all in dress code lol

All Leggings are against dress code unless worn under a skirt or dress only.

My manager wears ripped jeans then dress codes people for having small subtle patterns that are within dress code 😍

usually verbal warnings unless they’re really out of dress code. they’ve somehow made the dress code so laid back that’s it’s a little hard to follow, the dress code when i started was very straight forward (polos, black pants, khakis) but now it’s almost like you can wear anything. generally my store is good at following it but occasionally there’s people with ripped jeans or wild colors. usually they just get told they can’t wear that

See I’ve had people show up with light wash denim, purple shirts, green hoodies…and leggings that are damn near transparent
sumnsus1 points1y ago
Denims are alright as long as they’re homogeneously colored iirc, certain greens are okay but the hoodies aren’t. Although if you’re doing window and it’s cold, we usually just let our partners wear hoodies. Leggings are not allowed and so are colors that don’t belong in our color palette. Inform your SSV/SM maybe?

Green isn’t in our color wheel…

Sm wanna coach me about dress code when half the store ain’t in it. He only coach the coachable ones. And I’m like nah. If they not in dress code I won’t be in it too
csophb1 points1y ago
There’s so many options on the color palette now that I mean it’s not that hard to just wear something that falls within it. If a partner shows up and is out of dress code I will let it slide the first time after notifying them they need to be in dress code. Second time I send them home. Sucks to be that guy but it’s not fair to let someone constantly be out of dress code when everyone else is following the rules. Plus GM will hold me as a SSV accountable for letting it happen. :/
Edit: I will ask if they might have an extra shirt/pants/shoes in their car that they can change into before sending them home.
