Did you see if Instacart is accepting people in your area right now?

Good luck with the job search I wish you all the best. I am feeling grateful my bux is perpetually understaffed.

I just finished looked into it but sadly they’re not even in my area :( thank you for the idea though!

Yeah idk im confused because we are fully staffed and still hiring but nobody gets hours anymore Not even longterm partners. Just sucked seeing everybody so down today because of it
richayy420 5 points 1y ago
You can’t even work at another coffee shop / restaurant while working at the bux it sucks a friend who used to work at the bux told me she got let go as a shift when she started her second job in the coffee/restaurant industry. It’s possible to get a second job it just sucks

Can you not do doordash and stuff either? D:
richayy420 3 points 1y ago
No you can but Im saying if those options are on a waitlist the job list for us is short
Due-Ear8105 1 points 1y ago
Oh okay! Yeah :( All my DM said was check other stores but those partners hours are cut too so like 😭
richayy420 1 points 1y ago
Just ride out these next 2-3 months and pick up shifts it’ll get back to normal

Try out at a grocery store, especially if there isn’t a Starbucks inside. Aldi is advertising $16 per hour near me with flexible scheduling. Most grocery jobs offer a team member discount which can help you with food costs. PS, don’t be afraid to tell your boss that you can’t survive on part time hours and that they need to be flexible with you in these times. Gas prices are the highest they have been since 2008, rent, utilities, groceries, car parts, dining out are also at record high prices.

Ive applied to the aldi near me actually! I am looking at grocery stores, it just scares me a bit because me schedule for the bux is always all over the place and i wonder if it will be too much trouble to work around :(

Thank u for the advice and Ill be sure to mention to my SM that i need flexibility
AndrewtheRey 1 points 1y ago
It isn’t too much trouble. Managers are trained to be flexible. The only thing is that the manager could say that they already have the time you’re available filled

Be careful with instacart, that 1099-NEC fucked up my returns and I owed despite my income being the same dollar wise as the year before.
badatlife15 3 points 1y ago
The 1099 will be true of any contract type work (doordash, Uber, etc). Since they don’t tax you up front you end up paying more when it’s time to do taxes so it’s suggested to put money aside for those taxes. (This was advice given to me when I had a closer to full time job that was contract based)
dontgiveah00t 3 points 1y ago
Yep my tax guy said it’s not great supplemental income to have both w2 and 1099-nec, no matter where it’s from (instacart/ door dash/ Lyft/ reselling eBay with a 1099-k)

Very true, I do think if you earn under a certain amount (I want to say $600, but don’t quote me on it) that you don’t have to claim it. The other downside to any of these gig jobs is the wear and tear on one’s car/plus the cost of gas, with which the current global crisis probably makes these jobs even less beneficial. I used to deliver for doordash and one time hit a curb really bad, it was dark and while yes it was my fault not a fun cost to have my tire replaced the next day.

If you don't mind adding more physical stuff, try a grocery store-- business is booming, they may be willing to work around your schedule as it is super hard to hire these days. You would probably be good at picking orders for 'drive up & go' grocery pick up, a huge new section of grocery business that is always hurting for employees in my area. And you'd deal with less customers, just rush around with your cart scanning items, then getting them to the pick up spot by a certain time.

Good idea ty ill call my local grocery stores this week and ask
badatlife15 2 points 1y ago
Could you look for baby-sitting/dog waking jobs? I think Rover works similar to DD/Uber but with walking peoples dogs (I looked into it at one point). You also could look into substitute teaching, I know quite a few states have lowered requirements to be a sub with teacher shortages and you can always say no if you’re scheduled, but can earn (I believe) pretty decent money.
Due-Ear8105 2 points 1y ago
Oooh i didnt think of that. Thank you. I will look into it! I have childcare experience and a few small certificates so maybe a sub position isnt a bad idea.
I just thought you needed a degree but ill look into it thank u
badatlife15 2 points 1y ago
Yeah it’s definitely something to look into, I’ve used caregiving as a part time job for most of my adult life. I would also see if there are other Starbucks locations around and let them know you’re looking for hours, even with hours getting cut, people are still going to get sick and may not be able to find coverage from within their store.
femalehomosapien18 1 points 1y ago
Work at licensed starbucks lol. Sorry I’m not he’ll I’m in the same boat rn
rainy-gray 1 points 1y ago
I got a second job for this same reason and now work at bath and body works. I like it!
notrachelmar 1 points 1y ago
they cut hours every year around this time and it will pick back up in a few weeks, don’t sweat it too much! you can always pick up hours at other stores too
Due-Ear8105 1 points 1y ago
I hope youre right 🥺 I tried to ask about other stores but my team said it probably wouldnt happen since hours are cut everywhere and my other districts teams are also fighting for hours. So much icky stuff all around 😭
