Wanting to leave, unsure what to do about vacation time? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by heizemaze
Is it....possible to take my vacation time as my two week notice?

I am very overwhelmed with unionization and anti-union busting that honestly I feel I need to leave the company. I am sure this is not a unique situation.

So, how do you all claim your vacay hours before leaving sbux? Is there a formal method or just fuk it and do the requests for vacay and slap them with the two week notice right before vacay?

Protected vacation hours are paid out no matter what when you leave. They process in your final paycheck. DO NOT use these hours before you leave.

SICK hours, however, are lost. I'd talk to your SM and see if you can pad hours in the book to get you to 40 hours. They'll process it as non-coverage and protected sick time. You can also talk to your SM about just putting you on a no-shift so you can use the sick time. Talk to them and say 'I want to use some of my sick hours but don't want to screw the team. What can I do?'

I worked only 16 hours per week on the weekends, so I padded my last two weeks up to 40 hours and I only lost about 15 hours of sick time when I left.

What if I quit without a notice? Or get fired? Thanks for the info !!!

The same thing happens. Protected vacation hours are paid out in your last paycheck. Legally they cannot keep these earnings from you. Sick time is not paid out though. It's forfeit.
