So is this actually in the manual? my sm is demoting to supervisor and saying we are going back to standard policies, we cannot have water anywhere for down time unless we’re on our breaks. Also he came back from a week long cali vacation yesterday & hes “off” so he won’t come in to speak about this(i.redd.it)

That is not in the manual. Food consumption policy is on page 31. This individual is wrong, and as an aside, just seems generally unpleasant

im baffled, i work in a high volume mall where i am speaking ALL day long. to partners, on register, calling drinks out on bar, i don’t see why we are not allowed to have water in our designated break room on a shelf for down times in between rushes. would you rather have me gone for 2 minutes hydrating or out for 2 days because i can’t talk?
Upstairs_Raise745021 points1y ago
It is company standard. It's also very against health code to have your drink on the floor. We have a spot on our managers desk to place drinks and are only allowed to drink them in the back room not on the floor.
SportsChick7932 points1y ago
Agreed but the above text seems to limit it to official breaks only. Like when I'm on warming for 2 hours and I have a gap, I'm scooting in the back and chugging water considering how much I'm sweating. Pretty sure they don't want us passing out right?
Upstairs_Raise74507 points1y ago
Oh yeah, didn't see that part. That's probably not legal
ghetto-skooter16 points1y ago
yes i understand that, we aren’t keeping drinks on the floor nor drinking them on the floor. we keep them on a drink rack in the back by our designated break area, and they are telling us that we cannot have drinks AT ALL unless we are on our breaks. Then we have to wait 10 minutes to get our drink through the line by standard, which is our break... that’s the problem.

It is policy it's printed out in my store. Very dumb policy tbh.
ghetto-skooter6 points1y ago
wow that’s insane thank you all i needed to know!
TwoHead35447 points1y ago
I’ve heard of other managers doing this, if It is some loophole in the manual it is a horrible way to treat partners. Call Partner Resources and ask them. They’ll give you the real answer.
ghetto-skooter7 points1y ago
i did tonight! they just suggested to try to compromise with them but my question is, why are only some mangers following this policies and partner resources just say to work it out to go around the policy with that specific manager. if it is a ‘standard’ why are corporate or relations telling me to ‘work’ around the manager following it
TwoHead35442 points1y ago
Hmm, that is a really odd response. Honestly I would call again and get a different PRSC person to see what they say. Your SM is stepping down anyway right? I highly doubt your new SM will enforce that rule.
ghetto-skooter3 points1y ago
my dm is the one that is strictly enforcing this is just being verbally said by my sm. she’s big boss technically whenever the new sm comes. it sucks, hours cut making us short staffed, again we’re in a mall we need all the coverage we can get, and now slapped in the face with this. ☹️ im a shift and almost a 2 year partner and was wanting to spend time at the company for the benefits, but this make me want to turn around
Siren_barista194 points1y ago
Call back and lodge a complaint against DM/manager. Tell them you and other partners are being denied access to water, and you don’t feel safe due to risks of dehydration. Also, if you can find your regional director/manager’s information, you can complain directly to them. PCC won’t act unless you force their hand, and you need to use specific key words. Emphasize that you don’t feel safe, and it should escalate the response.
TwoHead35441 points1y ago
It’s clearly not a standard hence the wishy-washy response from PRSC. I’m disappointed that’s what they said and sorry you have to deal with this!
chinksauces5 points1y ago
sorry but if im on DTO for four hours during peak you bet your sweet ass im having a small cup of water near me
🤷🏻♀️
HunterLost20622 points1y ago
Thirsty? You have 1hr and 30 until your 10. Only water when we tell you coffee slave!!!
DaddyGray692 points1y ago
To be clear, consuming drinks doesn't realistically have to only take place on breaks. You can't order something outside of breaks, but if you already have something no decent manager is going to ask you to toss it after your 10. Also, nowhere in the Manuel does it say you can only drink water during designated times. That's a real quick way to get sued/fined. Water is a basic human right and Starbucks isn't going to be caught denying that. If you're having an issue with this, it's a manager issue, not a Starbucks issue.
ghetto-skooter1 points1y ago
thank you will be playing my cards right
CasuallyLee2 points1y ago
This is your SM?? Fired immediately. I ain’t during my ass for hours and not being able to have a break for WATER
ghetto-skooter2 points1y ago
right. only our official breaks? im out the door. no questions. and im not working a 2 weeks notice unless im allowed water for those 2 weeks.
Meggilli911 points1y ago
We were only allowed personal water bottles with lids that couldn’t be spilled. And we had to hide them on the shelf below POS if we were on the floor
ghetto-skooter1 points1y ago
man the luxury of water mbn
Toomanyboringpeople1 points1y ago
We’re not supposed to have drinks on the floor but our manager doesn’t care if we keep them in the back of house
Unrelated but Rockwall? Are you in Texas?
ghetto-skooter2 points1y ago
yes, not drinks on the floor as that is a compromise to food safety, but my manager and sm is saying none at all. only on breaks or before/after
that is very unrelated.
Toomanyboringpeople1 points1y ago
Lol fair 😂 I was only asking bc I’m around that area too 😂
ghetto-skooter1 points1y ago
