“Can I get a grande iced caramel macchiato with nonfat? It has to be nonfat or I’ll go to the hospital”
“Yeah we can do that with sugar free vanilla but we don’t have a sugar free caramel option”
“No I’m replacing the sugar with caramel, make sure the caramel is extra extra extra I want it painted on the walls”
“Our caramel has sugar, and also did you want to do the sugar free vanilla?”
“Caramel isn’t sugar and no I don’t do that sugar free stuff”
*Obviously not*
sombergucci54 points1y ago
what do they think caramel is made of?
pancakecafe [OP]35 points1y ago
You know I almost asked, it was actually my first question along with asking her why she feels like she has to lie about being allergic to sugar
purseEffphony52 points1y ago
Caramel is madeout of barista tears. It is a well known fact
_circuts7 points1y ago
I want underground starbucks merch that says barista tears
luvduvbunny44 points1y ago
Yeah this person isn't allergic to sugar. If they were, then they wouldn't be at a Starbucks of all places.
It's like when I had someone who claimed to be allergic to dairy but wanted the regular whole milk for their frappucino.
caitlin_marie_gg13 points1y ago
i had someone order a venti iced white mocha with oatmilk and they forgot to say no whip and we put whip on it and suddenly they said to us that they wanted no whip because of being lactose intolerant even though the wm sauce is literally dairy. the real kicker was that they used partner numbers and used to work with one of my coworkers
luvduvbunny11 points1y ago
I don't understand why people think they're special by claiming to be allergic to dairy (or whatever), and yet getting items that have the thing they are allergic to
canidieyet_6 points1y ago
I know so many lactose intolerant people who mention it no more than 5 times a day just so they can complain about how much they love milk, ice cream, etc and how it’s worth the upset stomach. Like, you knew what was going to happen. Don’t sit here and groan about your stomach hurting after drinking a milkshake💀
cookiemonstah873 points1y ago
I'm not even lactose intolerant and milkshakes are enough to make my stomach hurt!
subtlewormwood7 points1y ago
the wm has dairy…no wonder i’m always sick the next day -a concerned lactose intolerant barista who has a wm every shift and has never been told 😦
Any-Possibility-7177 points1y ago
I believe all the sauces have dairy in them! I have a couple that works at our store who are vegan and they told me they never even try to look at sauces ingredients cause they almost always have dairy so they stick to certain syrups
bestowcurse5 points1y ago
The mocha is vegan
subtlewormwood1 points1y ago
oh my god seriously even like just the syrups like vanilla!???
Epona_0213 points1y ago
literally once had someone tell me they were allergic to whipped cream while buying a frappuccino made of the exact same basic ingredients
cookiemonstah8710 points1y ago
Do people think "I don't like" is the same as "allergic?"
interyx9 points1y ago
Caramel.
Isn't.
Sugar.
I just... I can't.
_circuts8 points1y ago
Honestly if you're claiming you're gonna get sent to the hospital over a drink, I'd call that a liability and refuse service. Allergies are dangerous. Or at least "consume at your own risk."
pancakecafe [OP]3 points1y ago
I warned them it does indeed have sugar in it and she still argued with me but I insisted I had to make her acknowledge that she heard me say that. She told me it didn’t and that I was wrong but she heard me.
_circuts4 points1y ago
Bruh just wait until she googles that shit. Lmao
pancakecafe [OP]1 points1y ago
LMAO pleaseeeeee
_circuts2 points1y ago
Lit as long as your butt is covered. Its rough out there.

I had a mom and son come in recently. The mom ordered a passiontango lemonade but "with no sugar". So I asked if she just wanted the iced tea and no lemonade. She said no and wanted the lemonade. But sugar free because her son is diabetic. I was like ma'am lemonade is super sugar and apparently other starbucks were telling her it was sugar free..
tiredbarista619376 points1y ago
do you think they were communicating to her that there’s no added sweetener (besides the lemonade, i mean syrups)? that’s a very dangerous misunderstanding, i hope that kid is okay!!
cpv_915 points1y ago
16+ years listening to these morons and their lies.. There are not enough lines here for me to write out the stupidities I have heard. This one is definitely at the top though. It's definitely in line with the 8 pumps of WM in a grande soy latte, make sure it's soy because I'm allergic to dairy and extra WC.
pancakecafe [OP]2 points1y ago
I’ve also had that allergic to dairy comment on a drink with sauce! The worst one I got was someone asking for a drink with nonfat because they were allergic to dairy and they told me the fat part was the dairy in it. Well, that was the worst until this moron yesterday. Another bad one was the “medicine ball” no sugar but keep the lemonade *and* the honey.
imathrowayslc5 points1y ago
I also work at Edible arrangements. I had a customer try to tell me that their girlfriend was only allergic to dark and semi sweet chocolate, but not milk chocolate. Not entirely sure how that works, but I happily informed him that the only chocolate we use is semi sweet and that he could order or not, its up to him.
pancakecafe [OP]2 points1y ago
Feel like he just wanted only milk chocolate covered fruit. He *could* make it for her to be extra romantic
reclusivegiraffe2 points1y ago
i’ve had two separate people insist on being allergic to dairy and ordering nonfat milk in their drinks
purseEffphony1 points1y ago
Dairy Allergy causing anaphyllactic shock is a thing but rare. What most people mean is dairy intolerance and dairy Intolerant people can often get away with Non-fat milk because they are intolerant of the "milk solids" i.e. lactose... since non fat milk has fewer solids..
reclusivegiraffe3 points1y ago
even if they’re intolerant and not allergic, why run the risk? just get plant milk.
the first woman i had tell me this told me at the window “make sure it’s nonfat. i’m allergic to dairy and will go to the hospital”. the second woman asked me if nonfat milk was safe for dairy allergies. i told her no, and she got a plant milk instead.
