More cashier, less bar? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ixion_9
Hi. What does it mean generally speaking when shifts begin giving you less bar time and more register time? Is there a hidden message? Thanks.

nope, could be a mix of things. giving other people more bar time to practice or that your store is busy and maybe you don’t keep up as well. some shifts don’t tend to rotate people very much to other positions and it usually not on purpose. for the most part, it’s either putting you where you’re good at or giving you practice on a skill you don’t use very often. usually not a bad thing but if it lasts for weeks or too many shifts, you can always talk to your shift about it

I don't think there's a general meaning.

At my store, if I'm put on POS, it means any (or all) of the following:

- There's been some recent emphasis on making in-store customer connections, and they need someone on POS who can make them.

- We have enough people on the shift that they can afford to put me on POS instead of bar.

- We need a LOT of little tasks done around the store today, and I can only really multi-task when I'm on POS.

For me, I had a medical emergency at work and they’ve been trying to be more accommodating for me by putting me on POS more. But it’s not malicious. It can be for any number of things.

Usually not for you but maybe to try and get someone else more on bar? Or maybe noticing you might want a break from bar every once in a while. I hate being constantly on bar, I feel so disconnected to everything and kinda hyper-fixate on making drinks that I forget to ever think we have customers trying to wave me down to ask for more whip cream. So I usually am thankful for a register position for a few hours

At least you’re not Shift, Bar, DTO, and Support!!!!
Lol honestly, I try to look at my floor and see who is strong in what areas, I also try to give everyone bar time and have succeeded most the time.
