I used to work at a small cafe and we used to split the tips every night but now working at Starbucks it’s a lot different and I’m confused because no one has really explained how it works with this company. Or is it different for each store/manager? I had multiple customers want to leave tips for me alone due to my customer service and even translating for some of them who struggle with the menu but I can’t keep it all unfortunately but it’s been three weeks since I got started working the floor and only got a portion of the tips once but have seen my other coworkers receive their tips. Is there a certain schedule the tips are handed out on? I’m sorry if it’s a dumb question I’m just nervous to ask the other partners since I’m new and don’t want to seem stringy

They should be sorted weekly based on hours worked.
I could be wrong… but a customer can tip just you. It has to be in an envelope with your name on it though. (ETA: this is what I was told. I don’t recall seeing this in a policy. My store does this during Christmas. Some customers ask for a list of our names for this reason)

my SM and i looked this up recently and it is not a policy. official policy is that no one can accept personal tips and ALL tips must be split as per standard.

That makes sense! Thank you!

I do tips for my store:
Every week I collect the tip bags from the safe and combine all the money we get. I take the report of hours worked from the previous week and then figure out the average tip per hour and multiply that by each person’s hours worked. I divide that money into each person’s envelope and they’re ready to be distributed. You can ask a shift to get your tips from the safe for you if you’re not around when tips are finished for the week.
As others have said, we cannot accept cash tips individually unless they’re in an envelope with your name on it. Our SM has envelopes in the back she said she is fine with us using for circumstances like that; but it’s only really been utilized during the holidays I’ve noticed. Otherwise, when someone hands me a tip directly at the hand off plane I still throw it in our tip jar. We all work together to get the drinks/food out.

I also do the tips for my location and confirm that this is how we do ours as well (on Tuesdays).

It’s usually tips Tuesday around my area, basically if someone wants to give a tip to you alone they have to put it in an envelope with your name spelled on it. at least that’s what I was told. Otherwise it is supposed to go in the jar. Tho I don’t think anyone will really say anything about it if you are really going above and beyond. But I’ve also seen people carry small envolopes in there apron with their name on it to give to the customer to give to them. Idk if the envolope rules are only for holidays tho as that’s the only time it was brought up in my old store

Cash tips get pulled every night and then once a week counted and split based on the number of hours worked for each partner. Any online tips get counted and deposited with your check once a month.

For my store, we do tips Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how busy we were.

Find out what day of the week your store counts them and you can ask your SSV for them after that day of the week! At my store only SSV'S can access the tip pool so you have to ask for them:)

At my store, we aren’t allowed to keep tips if the customer designates its for *us* only. All tips we receive have to go in the tip jar and they’re counted every week and based on hours you worked. As for certain holidays, (at my store xmas/thanksgiving/new years) the tips are split for those holidays if you worked that day (so anyone who works xmas day, would get the tips from xmas day split between them, PLUS any tips from that week would get split between ALL the partners).
