Someone stole our freaking tip jar.. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by OldAd1069
So I’m shift last night at our store, and it’s fairly new but I’ve worked in that area for over three years now and have never had any issues BUT for some reason people love causing issues at the new store..I went to go lock the doors, breakdown tills and collect tips well. Went to get the cafe one and it’s GONE and we’re still pretty new so it only had maybe like $15 and some change, like literal Pennies and dimes, and some one swiped it.

Drop tips frequently throughout the day. Don’t be surprised, it’s quite common sadly.

Honestly that’s a good idea, the problem right now is we don’t have any tip bags only deposit bags so we have to be sparing with it

My old store kept an extra tip jar where customers couldn’t reach it so we could just dump the other jars in throughout the day and drop them whenever the shift decides to. That way only partners can steal the tips

One thing I’ve done is do one tip bag, open the safe and put it in, then retrieve at the end of the night and put the rest. That way they’re not out, but also not wasting tips.

Thank you for the advice, we’re all pretty new here with the exception of like 6 people, so it’s definitely a learning curve

I’m a new shift and it’s all a bit of a learning curve, but I love when my other shifts try to tell me one thing and then another, which happens ALL the time. I’ve just straight up told people “Oh you don’t have money…? Oh you should get money…You want this money? Oh. No. That’s my money…” (I’m blonde…and their reaction is fucking priceless…
Got into it with a woman who wanted utensils when we were out…the way she treated me…fucking priceless. We all got a laugh.

Thankfully I haven’t ran into people trying to pay using our tips but the day it happens..I’m ready

My SSV’s drop tips as often as they can to avoid this :( kids love to come to our store and steal the tip jars

And upsetting enough, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to involve the police at our store and we’ve only been open for a month 🥲

Every time we get a bill now I put it in the tip bag and just leave coins out. People might not tip as much but I can’t be bothered thinking if people will tip more or less or just steal the jar completely.

when i’ve been low on tip bags and this was happening, i used a pastry bag to drop the tips in until i could finish the rest of the day out and it’s worked really well!

I wonder why it’s more common for people to steal tips @ Starbucks opposed to an independent coffee shop ..
