DONT WORK OFF THE CLOCK (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Glittering-Office-36
Alright so I never post on this app I usually just get on here to laugh at crazy orders or chocolate croissants that have been burnt to ash, but something happened today during my shift and I feel like it can never be said enough, if you’re clocked out, DONT WORK!!! A barista was able to leave a few minutes early, and seemed to be under the impression that she should do a few more tasks in her last three minutes after she clocked out. Just to be clear, both my stores managers and all the shifts make it very clear you should never work off the clock. Just consider this as your friendly reminder that’s Starbucks will not crash and go out of business if they don’t have your every minute in the building spent working for them. If you’re off early, GO HOME!!! If your manager pressures you into working more off the clock, DONT. In fact that’s illegal in most states!!! (look into your own states laws, this particularly deals with “wage theft against the employee”) If you or anyone you know has been working off the clock, file a complaint with the Department of Labor! I only say this because my manager at my last retail job was incredibly manipulative and ended up with multiple employees working without compensation. By the end of it they also ended up with multiple lawsuits. KNOW YOUR WORTH PEOPLE EVERY MINUTE YOU ARE WORKING NEEDS TO BE A MINUTE YOU ARE PAID FOR.

Working off the clock at Starbucks is also a fireable offense. Don’t let anyone pressure you into it, either.

My licensed store did this all the time when the pandemic first hit. Managers and supervisors clocking out and working during their shift. Even for closing too. All to save labor.

With the hour cuts going on right now my store is chronically understaffed because our actual business is skyrocketing past the labor predictions. Unfortunately this means a lot of stuff doesn’t get done when it’s supposed to and it becomes the next shifts problem. I HATE leaving a mess for the incoming shift but we’ve been told absolutely no staying late to finish things. A fellow shift admitted to me that he stayed late off the clock to wrap up tasks because he felt so bad about leaving the store the way it was. All the shifts are friends at my store so I totally get where he’s coming from but I lectured him HARD on this. If they won’t give us the labor hours we need then they need to see the effects on their stores.
