Do baristas make enough wage? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jingleduck
What I mean to ask is, I see tip jars have been started in Starbucks. But they didn't before, I always had the presumption that they got paid min wage before. Bit the tip jar confuses me. Did they lower your salary, or did they actually did it to help you and not the corporation.

P.S. As a 1 semester only, ex-SB worker, I love my Starbucks baristas and I tip regardless 🤗. I know the feeling ish of loads of customers and everything going wrong all the time.

Yes we get paid at least minimum wage, tips are not counted as part of the pay. At least in the Pacific Northwest.

We are responsible for reporting additional income from tips via My Partner Info every week (or estimate unreported tips when you file taxes)

Pesky taxes. :(
But thank you, I am glad it's just extra. And not like in restaurants

Tip jars have been around for over 6 years now, so wym?

Ahh that would make more sense. I worked last on 2016. My phrasing was wrong. I have seen them around. But I was just curious to know.

To be fair, we get paid a minimum wage but it isn’t a living wage by any stretch of the imagination

We have had tip jars since my husband started in 2008?

I’ve been with the company since 2008, and we’ve always had tip jars. That being said, being with the company since 2008 I only make $1 more than a new hire. The tenured employees are viciously underpaid.

This post makes no sense. Tips jars were around the entire time I worked at sbux 2006-2021. But anyways…. Tips are not part of pay. And tips don’t go to the corporation lmao.
