yes you can…. the matcha green tea latte doesn’t get water and it no longer gets classic anymore. you’re suppose to shake it

My baristas got fed up with the amount of people who get iced matcha and complained about clumps, so we go against standard and put it in our cold foam blender. It's much quicker than shaking and gets all the clumps out.

Is this in the US? In Canada ours is just powdered green tea, when I started in 2018 it was pre-sweetened but it changed within a month or 2 of when I started

It's basically half sugar half matcha. I wish we had regular matcha that way we could just build it with sweetener if people wanted it like that. Matcha not from Starbucks is not sweet,but honestly add a little agave and it's perfect.

Legit matcha has a very strong earthy taste, just like SBX matcha, just picture without any sweetness to it. I used to drink it all the time and used the rock sugar that Teavana sold before they were bought out by Starbucks to sweeten it up a little. Used a super cute glass cup I got from Teavana and just felt like a Queen and boujie when I drank it like this!

Traditional matcha, yes. But Starbucks matcha ingredients are “sugar, green tea”. So Starbucks matcha is a minimum of like 50.1% sugar.

Oh shit. I didn’t know. I work for Starbucks about 15 years ago. I remember sweeting the matcha tea lattés with vanilla syrup. I guess I just assumed it was legit matcha powder. Has it always had sugar in it or is this new? Kinda weird to pidgin hole yourself to sweet. Many like unsweetened matcha.

Yeah, when I started in 2008 I’m pretty sure it was traditional matcha. I remember the standard sweetener was melon syrup (I miss that). But then Starbucks cut ties with tazo and started making their own matcha.

Same with the chai. The tazo chai was more spicy than sweet, but the Starbucks brand chai we have now is wayyy sweeter than it is spicy. Very disappointing.

At one point ingredients were matcha, sugar; now it's sugar, matcha. I think they may have been slowly adding more sugar over the years.

I have a customer who asks for a tall nonfat extra hot matcha latte with 10 scoops of matcha and no foam. The sanitizer water is always ruined no matter how fresh it is after her drink.

Theres a lady in my store that comes everyday to get her iced matcha latte with 14 scoops of matcha and will get mad if it is not done exactly how she likes it, or if it takes us longer than 30 seconds to have it and her egg bites done 🙄

Original matcha does not have any added sugar, but Starbucks being sugar crazy added a huge amount.

traditional matcha is green tea leaves grounded into a powder rather than a tea bag, but Starbucks matcha is definitely more sugar than actual matcha

had a customer one time came in and order two of them with 18 or 24 scoops each. There was a little bit left so we tasted it and it was over powering and chalky 🤢

Used to have a regular who would order a TALL hot matcha with 10 scoops and he would complain that it wasn’t strong enough. He probably didn’t drink it fast enough and it all became sludge at the bottom 🤢

Starbucks Matcha is not 90% sugar. It has more matcha than sugar. You can tell this by the color of the matcha and how greener it gets when u add more. Dunkin on the other hand is most likely 90% sugar. U can see it’s a light green color even tho matcha is supposed to be a muted green color. Dunkin matcha is cheap and taste sugary.
