So first thing first, the thing I tell every new hire I meet is the store has an IPAD. on the IPAD there is an app called store resources, it has every bev, cleaning process, ect….use it and review it. Second, the POS till has boxes and abbreviations on the side. It gives you the drink ID. I knew abbreviations better when we wrote cups, and love that some baristas CAN read cups. It’ll take about six months to be good at anything, keep that in mind and your head up!

I’m fairly new too and when I first started and even now my more long term coworkers would get mad at me every time a I made a mistake and just seem so annoyed at me. I only got trained 3 days so that didn’t help, I knew nothing so I Would go on the Starbucks app when I got home and clicked on all the drinks and looked at the recipes on there to try to memorize them, I even did flash cards, but there’s still so much to learn. It’ll get easier I promise but don’t feel bad if it takes you longer to get something it’s literally not your fault

Once you punch in a drink name, look at the right side of the screen where the replica of the cup side is/mods menu. It will tell you what goes in every drink.
You know where shots/size/syrup/milk/custom/ is
It's very faint but a lot of info is there
Also the drink cards may be more accessible to look at in a hurry when you have downtime.
There are also barista crafted cheat sheets floating around the internet.

i'm sorry this has been your experience 💛 in addition to the other two comments, what i think is a better way to learn and memorize the drinks is actually when you're at home just pulling up the starbucks website or app. If you go through the menu on there it has listed what syrups, milk, shots, toppings etc are in the drinks and so you don't have to worry about doing it on the clock. Because while it may be convenient to look at the ingredients on the POS system, it may be harder to do that while actively taking a customers order yknow?
But some flat rules to remember that i feel apply to a good half of the common drinks:
all drinks with the word "mocha" in the name have whip on them! and so does cinnamon dolce latte and caramel apple spice and those are your only currently in season hot bar drinks that come standard with whip (except the espresso con panna but those are a little less common and the customers know what they're getting in to)
all mocha variation frappucinos EXCEPT the plain standard "mocha frappucino" get java chips and mocha drizzle (mocha cookie crumble, mocha cookie crumble creme, java chip, double chocolate chip creme), and the only difference between the mocha cookie crumble set and the java chip set is that the mocha cookie one has extra whip and a cookie crumble topping!
all the refreshers that have the word "drink" in the name have coconut milk instead of water or lemonade (pink drink, dragon drink, star drink)
americanos, flat whites, and shaken espressos come standard with an extra shot (except the hot venti americano specifically which gets two extra shots lol)
popular drinks with "caramel" in the name usually only have caramel in the topping! caramel frappucino and caramel latte are the only ones safe from this lol but a caramel macchiato has vanilla syrup but caramel drizzle, the salted caramel cream cold foam cold brew has vanilla syrup in the drink but caramel syrup in the foam, the salted caramel mocha has mocha and toffee nut in the drink but caramel drizzle on top (and whip bc it has mocha in the name!! haha)
anyways, id go check the menu on either the website or the app to make sure you've got everything down but i hope those little rules make a few things easier for you to remember 💛💛
