Mastrena II tab issues! (self.starbucksbaristas)

Closers swear they run tabs every night, but half the time we have to run them in the AM and keep having no espresso for like 15 minutes at open. One tech told our SM that you have to pull a shot after cleaning at night or it won’t acknowledge that it’s clean. The weekly update said to never run shots after it’s clean, but to rinse the tray only.

Has anyone else ever has this problem? How did it get resolved?

The machines may be malfunctioning after the cleaning cycle is started, e.g. low water flow error. The closers think they did it, the morning finds it never finished. There should not be a need to run any shots after the cleaning cycle, we just put them into deep sleep for the night as the machine suggests. If they're consistently getting an error at close, though, you're likely to periodically be getting a similar error during the day.

Just call them in for a check up.

Maybe, but why do they never malfunction when we run them in the morning? I wouldn’t mind just running them at open except that they aren’t supposed to sit with gunk in them all night.

I mean, the other option is that your closers are doing their jobs badly and lying continuously when there's direct evidence about it. I know there's animosity in most stores between AM and PM crews, but is this really a plausible explanation? Do you find them uncleaned after the same closing team all the time, or is it after various closing teams?

Either the machines are consistently doing something wrong or the humans are. The machines seem easier to check on. 🤷‍♀️

We don’t have animosity, as some of our closers are also mids people and we have a lot of crossover. We’re legitimately just trying to figure out what is up. Our SM was at a neighboring store for two years and only recently came to ours. She said they had had this same problem, called in a tech, and it was resolved by running shots after cleaning, which is fine if that’s what it takes. The weekly update says otherwise, so I just wondered if any other stores had had this issue and what they did about it.
