Our store is trying to Unionize, so they fired our manager(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cheekydickwaffle69
We are enraged, our store has been running ragged for months, our manager is an absolute legend and kept us happy and running through the toughest shortages and staffing issues. We tried to Unionize for better treatment of our already overworked staff, so corporate came in and fired our beloved manager as a scare tactic. But now we are more motivated than ever to become a union store. Our staff at the Burton and Rosemont store in Michigan is united and ready to fight for our manager's job. They will not scare us, we will not back down. We deserve basic human decency and guaranteed security in our jobs. We should be able to live off of our hard earned wages and feel safe in our store. Please stand with us!! https://twitter.com/cmrjb/status/1501205476155043840?s=10

If you have already got documents to prove you were unionizing it was illegal for them to fire your boss.

they can always say they fired for poor performance. they can't prove that it was related

That's why you have to have a narrative ready to combat that with receipts.
For instance - did that manager have any warnings prior to the firing? If the manager had only good marks - right up until the union stuff heated up then that is a great start.
Starbucks as a corporation is ghoulishly soulless. They will stoop to the lowest levels to stop this beautiful unionization effort. Don't let their scare tactics stop you from unionizing & speaking up.

That will be incredibly hard to prove, especially given store managers aren’t even eligible for union membership.

I disagree.
If the store manager had a good record before the union talk got started, then it is definitely doable to make a case.
I'm sure upper management knew this store manager wasn't a stooge willing to throw their partners under the bus. I'm optimistic a case can be made that the firing was retaliatory.

Unfortunately SMs are not protected under labor law. That’s why it’s important we do everything we can to show Sbux we’re not gonna stand for it

I love your manager! Corporate is dumb to think that firing your awesome manager will make you guys back down from unionizing

Right?? "Hey, look how we can fire anyone at any time with no real recourse available, now don't unionize please?"
Like that's scary until we remember that unionizing protects workers from this kind of power abuse.

I stand with you guys! Stay strong and you will win. Tell your manager to file a complaint with the labor board

Starbucks covers bases when firing someone and does an investigation gets proof of why they are being fired and gets that paperwork the union may fight for their job back as a barista but they will likely never be management again
