SM threatened to cut hours if we don't move fast enough (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Enough_Raise_7167
Our SM came in a couple hours late the other day because they have trouble sleeping, this happens almost all of their shifts, so they missed our rush. They immediately told all of us, on the floor, that we weren't moving fast enough. Then later they told a coworker that they would cut coworkers hours if they saw they weren't moving fast. Coworker has a leg injury. SM also said that they watch to see how fast everyone moves and gives hours accordingly. Also, SM never opens so we've all been awake and working while they are sleeping in. And we were also down a person since they were late.

Who do I complain to? I doubt our DM would do anything. Do I call PCC? Labor board? Also, we have a few older partners, so isn't it discrimination to say that you're going to base hours on how fast someone is moving?? They don't seem to understand that we get tired after a rush. And there's a difference between moving with a sense of urgency and running around maniacally for the sake of looking busy, which they and other SSVs do.

idk the officials but i DO know that that is NOT okay, Starbucks or not. definitely report your manager, idk to where but SOMEWHERE and make sure you let the higher ups know that your manager comes in late, threatens you guys to work faster (what, like some slaves??? hell no), and basically talks down on you like you’re not human. I’m sure your manager knows that your partner who has a leg injury needs a bit of time to get things going. idk what kind of bs ur manager is on but they gotta go asap

They definitely should not be a manager. I seriously don't know how they got the job.

I would say call your DM. Helpfully there are numbers on here that may help, I hope you get out of that horrible situation 💕

Now that I look at that again call the business ethics and compliance hotline and your DM

I filed a complaint on the Business Conduct site but haven't received a response yet :/

I would recommend calling so it’s brought to their immediate attention, but also filling that out was a good idea
