Everyone’s advice on just practicing is very valid, but people are still mean. But, if you’re struggling with something and need a second just say something like “sorry I’m still figuring out the system and want to make sure I’m putting in your order right, do you mind…” repeating, slowing down, giving you a second to get the order in, etc. People were always WAY nicer to me when I told them this and even a year in I’ll sometimes have to pull something similar. If I say things in a goofy way like “they moved the buttons” or “the drinks are hiding from me today” I get a little laugh out of them and they aren’t mad at me. If they see you as a person who is learning and trying they will be less shitty to you I promise. And if they aren’t, complain about them later and commiserate with the other partners and remember, it’s just coffee :)

Oh yeah, this is great advice! It works like a charm. Most people are understanding and nice about it when you tell them you're learning. And well, if they aren't, that's not your fault. You're trying your best.

It just really takes time....and doing it over and over. I have been on drive thru now almost a year straight ...and it took about 4 mths till I really no longer have ro look while I type in an order. Thar is until they change things. ..lol.

honestly.. while learning register, I just had to ask a lot of questions of where things are, then try to remember them. I would start off with remembering where each category of drink goes:
like blended is all fraps, tea is all of the teas, espresso is where majority of the coffees are, etc.
the other is where all the refreshers are, and there are some tips \^\^. it took me some time.. but just looking through the system itself will help a lot!

I’ve been around forever and I still use the “they moved the buttons” or “I can’t find the button. This screen has hundreds of buttons” lines. Like others said, just tell them you are new or learning or however you want to say it. Unfortunately some people are just not kind. But most will understand.

I wish I could give you an answer but I know for a fact that our POS system is different (I'm in LATAM, it sure is complex but we don't do "x amount of pumps" and specifics like that). But I can assure you, it gets better! Trial and error, and learning. Nothing more than that. It will take time but you'll get the hang of it and learn lil tricks to make it easier. Good luck!

Take pictures & go home & pretend to take orders. If u have a friend make them order stuff. Everything is mostly on the esp page. Everything on the Y axis is drinks, everything on the X axis is modifications.

i remember it took me a while too to remember where everything was. the thing that helped me the most was practicing on ANY down time, especially when i was on pos and there wasn’t a customer for a few minutes. and by practicing, i either made up drinks myself or had another partner give me an order to try to get used to it a little faster. really anything helps.

Take pictures of each tab and if you have an iPad, “play register”. Also, the more you are at register, the faster you become. No one should expect you to be lighting fast right out the gate. Give yourself at least 6 months sweet green bean! 😊
