how can starbucks go from requiring medical grade masks to dropping the mask mandate in a matter of weeks??

Starbucks is required to follow the OSHA minimum health safety guidelines and OSHA follows the CDC. Most companies required to follow OSHA are having the same whiplash of policy issues. Hope this explanation helps!

They're not required to strictly only follow the minimum. They're allowed to set better standards.

I laugh every time I see some stupid update to COVID policies, usually taking away a benefit, with an addendum that California isn't affected. Because they have better labor laws than most of the country.

Starbucks treats us as harshly as the law allows. Pretty fucked up imo.

Half of us kept our masks on today. Don't feel pressured to not wear one, it's your decision and your life. And it's not hurting anyone to keep wearing one.

We all need to respect each others beliefs everyone should asses their risk level and make a choice and it’s no one’s place to judge them.

My store is in a low risk area and plus all of us our vaccinated so don’t wear masks and removed plexis

I feel really awkward being one of the few partners wearing a mask. It won’t falter my mask wearing though.

Really? Everyone at my store is still wearing ours… the policy change didn’t phase us at all. Our local COVID numbers are still gross so we’re all still planning on masking for a good while. The reasons the numbers goes down is because of masks… they’ll just keep going back up with the premature removal of mask enforcement.

If you're sick, wear a mask. If you were around someone who is sick, wear a mask. They became mandatory because people couldn't be trusted to wear them when appropriate.

We should also respect the people who choose not to wear them. My little cousin has terrible PTSD from a sexual assault and she wore hers despite feeling incredible anxiety for the past few years. She said she's so happy she's free of her mask and is starting to feel more in control of herself and hasn't had a panic attack since.

Mental health is so important, take care of yourselves!

No but at the same time I don't want to make other partners feel uncomfortable. Eventually I am sure most of us will stop wearing it but if it means I need to wear it for a bit longer to make other around me feel more comfortable I am okay with that

Also remember that Starbucks is based in Seattle and will a lot of the time follow the rules of Washington state. Washington state just dropped all mask mandates so the company did. Obviously follow what you want and wear a mask if that’s what makes you comfortable but Starbucks have been going down hill lately 🤷‍♀️
