Since I’ve been seeing posts about scheduling, haha(i.redd.it)

Straight up I would tell them I’m not coming in for that
Kjthejew [OP]91 points1y ago
That’s exactly what I told my SM, I said the drive there and back is longer than my shift, no thanks 😂
darkwolf5235 points1y ago
Same
shutupsav57 points1y ago
the audacity to do this when gas is $5 a gallon
Dramatic_Celery_226238 points1y ago
I’d text my manager “girl fuck you” so quick 😂😂
Kjthejew [OP]5 points1y ago
Reasonable, lol
aee7833 points1y ago
Are you getting paid for 3 hrs? Cause I was told anything scheduled under 3 hours, you got paid for 3 hours. Might be a state thing though.
Kjthejew [OP]13 points1y ago
Nope! .75 🤪
pink_haired_bitch1 points1y ago
You can actually find in the partner handbook there is a minimum shift requirement (2 hours I believe) so bring that up and make your statement
JavaWasp26 points1y ago
That’s not even legal in Cali
b99__throwaway17 points1y ago
well it is but they’ll have to pay you a minimum of 2 hours no matter what
pink_haired_bitch1 points1y ago
You can actually find it in the partner handbook! There is a minimum shift requirement
batman_thedead18 points1y ago
got offered a 2.5 hour shift that’s at a store 25 minutes away from me… i declined because at that point, it’s not even worth it, but i cant even imagine how .75 would feel :((
changbinsomnia17 points1y ago
this is the worst one i've seen

What I don’t understand is why all store managers seem to think that the best way to cut hours is to give people shorter shifts, rather than just fewer shifts. Say your SM is cutting you from 32 to 24. I feel like almost everyone would rather work 3 8 hour shifts than 4 6 hour shifts, yet it seems like all managers just cut the shift length and then everyone ends up working short shifts on many days. If I’m getting my hours cut I’d way rather have more days off so I’m available to pick up shifts on other days, or even just to have more free time to myself. Just my two cents I don’t get why SMs don’t see that🤷🏼♀️
sheep_heavenly11 points1y ago
(because this is a labor cut to get people to quit)
(if everyone works very short shifts, the burden of someone quitting is easier to cover by extending others shifts)
(it's fucked up and SBWU has launched an investigation)
xoMisaa5 points1y ago
it’s 100% working. I have an interview at another coffee/crepe place near me on thursday and if i get the job i’m quitting this hell hole of a company.
bagels2243572 points1y ago
yeah…. well it’s definitely working, lol. I’ve had several coworkers find new jobs in the past few weeks. I’ve been having to work 6-7 days just to get above 30
Nastybeerlight2 points1y ago
Because if you get to full time, they have to give you benefits which is a big no no. That’s why I left the siren. I couldn’t do 25 hrs a week in 5 days, it seemed like a waste of time. That was when block scheduling was a thing. I thought they were done with that🤨🤨
femalehomosapien181 points1y ago
Literally. Also if I work 8 hours I get a lunch so they would save MORE labor doing it that way too
WorthPrinciple70490 points1y ago
We have a new SM and she is scheduling us all 5.75 hour shifts, so as few people as possible have meals. That was just before the labor cuts, and I’m finding it to be pretty good, actually. No one ever gets a 6 hour shift; it’s 5.75 or 8. If you get a meal, you work for it! 😂
otterpopemo0 points1y ago
It’s also a bodies on the floor equation. I don’t need 6 partners on the floor for 8 hours but I might for 4 hours during peak. But if I scheduled 6 partners for 8 hours we’d be overstaffed in the later day part.
Staffing and scheduling is the hardest part of being an SM. It’s my least favorite part of my job.
socalsailor0279 points1y ago
Is it a store meeting?
Kjthejew [OP]14 points1y ago
Nope! Putting away the big order.
overturned2319 points1y ago
at my store that’s the responsibility the openers
Kjthejew [OP]11 points1y ago
Normally is at ours too, we have like 1-2 hours non coverage scheduled in the morning to put away the big order
WorthPrinciple70491 points1y ago
Y’all have non-coverage in the morning for that?! We barely get anyone EVER for that, but it’s always in the afternoon! If anyone comes in the morning, they better be ready to jump on the floor!
biggestsaddest8 points1y ago
Anything under 5 hours is laughable. I hate starbucks as a company for allowing this shit to happen, and I'm glad I jumped ship last year
[deleted]0 points1y ago
as much as starbucks sucks i guarantee your new job doesn’t have better benefits unless your working for your state
neighborrcat7 points1y ago
with these gas prices!? fuck that
Electrical_Metal_1067 points1y ago
That should be illegal. Maybe check your state laws. Either way, that is not right!
socalsailor0271 points1y ago
It’s never illegal ur thinking of reporting time which is 3 hr minimum in some states if you get sent home early. But since this is the schedule partner is expected to come in or find coverage
Electrical_Metal_1066 points1y ago
I’m pretty sure that in my state, the minimum amount a shift can be scheduled is two hours. That is why I suggested they check their state’s labor laws. It’s important to know your rights.
Kjthejew [OP]3 points1y ago
I just straight up told my SM I wasn’t coming in, i oughta look into it though because that seems good to know.
SeparateAd34736 points1y ago
I told my manager I can’t show up for anything under 5 hours and she fixed it the next week. I was scheduled 3.5 hours on a Wednesday basically just to cover peak in the morning. I threw a bigger fit about it than I needed to. 3.5 hours isn’t even enough I didn’t even want that shift as a teenager and I definitely don’t want it as an adult.
Karona246 points1y ago
Wow what would that pay??
Kjthejew [OP]5 points1y ago
$11.43USD before tax lmao
jetsgrl174 points1y ago
My SM schedules me 3 hours to put away the big order. I take my time so I go over the 3 hours. It’s non coverage so it doesn’t hurt her coverage hours. And our orders are huge to the point of being ridiculous so if they are going to order heavy, I’m gonna take my time.
Upstairs_Raise74504 points1y ago
Wtf?!
CobaltLemon3 points1y ago
Ask them if they will drive you to and from work for that big shift. You're gonna be so tired.
FfierceLaw3 points1y ago
Salaried SM needs to put away that order, my SM does
Lost_Treat_62962 points1y ago
With the price of gas.. 😂 would you even be breaking even?
jelizt1 points1y ago
I was initially only scheduled one day this week until I text my an like “hey what’s going on” and now I have 3 4hr shifts…
