Are Honey Citrus Mint teas universally popular? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ryman230
In our district, the *sheer number* of Honey Citrus Mint teas (aka “medicine balms” or as the accent goes “medicine balls”) are **through the roof** and easily the top selling drink, as well as the most despised drink to make for the baristas here. At least as far as southern US goes.

Is it equally as popular in other locations? Outside of the US? Or is this more of a regional trend?

During the cold months we get a bunch because people think it cures a cold.
ryman230 [OP] 20 points 1y ago
Oh yeah I forgot to put down their other, less common name, “Cold buster”.

There is a Today show segment from a few years ago and Jenna Bush and Hoda were talking about back in 2019 and they called it the medicine ball. Oh wow.

Some people also have ordered it as a ‘sick tea’
indigogo2 11 points 1y ago
Yeah that one really gets me. I've taken the order as "sick tea" two or three times, and each time my brain and nervous system have to do a quick emergency reset for a half-second (that feels like several seconds) as I collect myself in order to continue on with taking their order.
DamnitDean 7 points 1y ago
As soon as someone says “sick tea” I go to get a pair of gloves and distance myself from the window lmao

here in the PNW it's popular. so popular in fact, a few customers said it even cures covid and the flu.

…. They’re supposed to be called medicine balms??? Whaaattttt

They’re pretty popular in my location but I’m not sure if it is outside US since different locations have different drinks and food items. A customer told me that she was from California and apparently they’re called sick busters?????
MaxHard420 19 points 1y ago
Lol nah they’re called medicine balls or were when they were a secret menu item. OP must of misheard whoever told them the name lol
ryman230 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
Ah my bad, I got the information from a few of my shift leads. Good to know because medicine balms are way different, medicine ball seems way more accurate.
uwumoment 2 points 1y ago
i remember when someone called it a cold buster i busted out laughing
tittywhipp 5 points 1y ago
Yes. Even in the balls hot ass sun. Even on a perfectly great day. Even in hell.

Aliciarox11189 3 points 1y ago
We just peach tea back and jade and mint maj back ... I'm wondering if it will last more than a week
ryman230 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
We usually run out of our fresh shipments of the jade citrus and peach tranquility within 2-3 days.
Aliciarox11189 3 points 1y ago
I'm being optimistic since it's warm
banannon999 3 points 1y ago
THE STUPID "MEDICINE BALL" THOSE LITTLE AAAAAAAHHHH
dkr1829 3 points 1y ago
Most people at our city think it’s gonna cure Covid too 😂😂
Zealousideal-Star448 3 points 1y ago
When we actually get peach tranquility then yea there probably as popular as any crème frap. And I’m in California
Jaded_Fun_7133 3 points 1y ago
Okay what goes in this infamous drink i just started and we don’t have the stuff for it so we steam lemonade or something idek I’ve only had to make it once (the modified way) since I started and completely forgot already, but anyone wanna let me know how to actually make it with the peach tranquility 😂
overturned23 5 points 1y ago
1 Jade citrus mint tea bag, 1 peach tranquility bag

2 pumps honey blend (for a tall 1 pump)

Half water, half steamed lemonade
leeblissy 2 points 1y ago
they're decently popular, I feel like I get at least two or three orders for them in a day, usually more i think. I even recommended one today because someone asked if there was a tea good for allergies. I made damn sure to make it clear that it could clear your sinuses for a second but not much more than that, and I definitely didn't call it a medicine ball while recommending it cuz it felt misleading, but yea. I haven't had it myself cuz I'm not much of a tea guy- is it good?
ryman230 [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I’m not much a fan of it, it kinda tastes like hot diluted lemonade despite following what the recipe says, perhaps letting it sit longer makes the other flavors more pronounced, not sure.
leeblissy 2 points 1y ago
yea, with hot teas like that I usually try to tell customers to let it steep for two or three minutes, but sometimes teas just don't taste like much 🤷🏻‍♂ part of why I'm not the biggest fan lol
Caffeineadick 1 points 1y ago
There super popular at my store although the common name for it here is medicine ball
decemberbites 1 points 1y ago
Our state is pretty hot all year, so we rarely get people asking for hot drinks- it's always iced or a refresher. I think I've made the medicine balm twice so far this year.
