I had a similar experience recently. Labor cuts left us with a three person play for seven hours and only closing with me and a relatively green bean, us two as an hour before close. I chose not to overwork myself. If they want us out on time then we need better training and better staffing. I prioritize breaks and lunches, give people breathers if they need them, and ultimately put my partners first. We ended up getting out an hour after close (honestly, not horrible) and I made sure to write every single thing and every reason why in the daily records book. In pen, nobody is erasing that shit. Managers have to say something, even if it makes no sense. At this point, I’ve decided not to stretch myself or my workers thin and do the jobs of multiple people with the same pay. I don’t know if that’s much help, but finding peace with my worth as a worker and finding patience has made this struggle easier. I take it all with a grain of salt, I know my floor, just like you know yours

Honestly, it’s the SMs job to hold baristas on your shift accountable if you are coaching them and not getting the results you need. You can’t be held responsible for getting out late if your baristas are struggling with their performance. If you tell your SM the reasons why you are getting out late, and then you are blamed for it…. That sounds like they don’t trust what you’re saying. Either way, your SM is avoiding the root of the problem by not addressing the barista issue, and blaming everything on you as the shift.
