They make it sound like joining a union is like getting an experimental medical operation rather than trying to protect yourself and your coworkers from corporate lmao

literally. i feel horrible because my boyfriend still has to work here for the ASU benefit and is also picking up another job. i’m leaving the company and picking up two jobs aswell but tonight really drained him since now it’s only 2 closers and tomorrow the higher ups are visiting our store. him and the shift had to do basically another clean play…. my boyfriend did a clean play LAST NIGHT. him and the shift were only scheduled until 9:30 but got out at nearly 10:15 bc of everything they had to do…. this company is truly going downhill.

So I somewhat agree here. Example being: ASU.
Right now it’s a benefit for us that is offered. If we join a union and there are negotiations, it’s a possibility that it could be taken away. IE: we lose a benefit. If the union is doing negotiating, they typically speak for us. Just because things are offered as benefits, does not mean they won’t be taken away after these negotiations.

Benefits can change at any time, just like your meal mark out is a “benefit”. They also do not have to offer benefits at 20 hours per week, they could be like conventional employers, whom give benefits at 40 hours. You must also consider that when you are employed with Sbux, they do not have an FTE, which is your benefit/requirement to work a week. It could be stated that at the next open enrollment (I E July) sbux changes it’s policies of benefits and says “We can no longer cover ASU at a 42% scholarship AND a 5,250.00 yearly tax free rate. So now you only get the $5,250 tax free rate OR you get $500.00 reimbursement each fiscal year.”
There’s more to benefits, they actually CAN change at the open enrollment times.
