I am not learning your secret/Tik Tok drinks! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throwaway62919six
A partner yesterday told me that I should be familiar with drinks that are being posted on Tik Tok or other “secret menu” drinks. Which, firstly: No! I am not interested in seeking out what other people like to order at my place of work (Unless it’s a consistent regular for which I try my best to learn). I am not a Barista Research Specialist™️ nor do I want to look at any of that on my own Tik Tok. That partner then was saying that they’re really common at our store. Again, no! They’re not common. People might have spelled out the ingredients on a mobile order but I’ve rarely ever had someone ask for a base drink we don’t have. The only time that happened while I was working was that blue drink joke that was happening for a while. If someone spells out what the drink is and how it’s made then I have no problem doing that, but I will not take time out of my own day and space in my already blocky memory to learn what a “Skittles Frapp” is.

if it’s not on the menu , i don’t bother to learn it . and if they want some complicated ass drink , they can give me the recipe for it . i don’t get paid to learn drinks outside of work

The only ones i bother to learn are the ones i like. Like the valintines drink? (Sberry açaí lemonade, raspberry, and topped with passion) oml i love it so much.

That sounds good. How much of what do you put in, if you don't mind posting it?

I do normal pumps. I think most will do like 1/2 to 2/3 of them

I’m such a jerk, I keep trying to get my coworkers to ask for a recipe when people ask for certain kinds of cold foams. I feel like the customers most of the time won’t know and I feel like that’s less likely to be readily available to them too. “What is this matcha foam you speak of? What goes in it?” Also, I’m really mean to some customers that are jerks with their super modified drinks. If they say “cold foam,” you better believe that’s what they’re getting. Not vsccf! Am I a little evil? Yeah… do I kill the customer vibes? Yeah. Our customer connect score still thrives though….

You are right to call BS on that partner. You just tell the customer if they want something that's not on the menu, if they can tell or show you what is in it and how it's made, you can probably make it. If it has some crazy time consuming stuff like pulverizing dragon fruit to mix it in with white mocha to make a purple drizzle, that's going too far but I'd let the shift supervisor make that call. But if it's a pump of this and a pump of that, foam, extra shots, etc. put it in the POS and make their $10 beverage for them. I will not watch videos but I will look at a screen shot of a recipe

goddd always, the only time i actually made a secret drink for someone who ordered it that way was this cute little kid who was obviously really shy to order for herself and her dad was pushing a little hard for her to. otherwise, no recipe then i can’t make it (even if i know what goes in it)

I had a partner tell me to get tiktok so i can be more familiar with secret menu drinks….

1. No.

I dont want tiktok for many reasons and breaking that to learn drinks on my own time unpaid? Noty :)

I laugh at people who hold their phone up to me expecting me to watch a whole fucking video.

Nope. I don’t get paid enough for that. I’ll tell them if they can find the recipe and show it to me then I’ll see if I can make it or not.
