Is it acceptable to work with nails on as long as the partner wears gloves during the shift??(self.starbucksbaristas)

I’ve heard my old SM tell a barista that they would have to wear gloves the entire shift since they had their nails done. Wondering is this still acceptable method?

in my experiences as a supervisor in 3 districts and 8 stores- the policy clearly defines any polish, acrylics, or jewels as a no. the *exception* i’ve seen many times is when a partner comes in with polish or acrylic/gel on because they are going on or coming back from vacation and have yet to get them removed and must wear gloves until then. it’s never been long term. edited to make sense lol

From what I’ve seen from two different locations it seems this is normally just a temporary accommodation for a partner when they have either just had an important outside of work event or are about to have one(like a vacation, graduation, birthday, etc). They normally don’t get more than a day or two with the gloves.

Um, no. The dress code clearly says no nails or nail polish. I'd send the partner to remove the nails immediately. Food safety and federal health code violation.

At my store you're allowed to have your nails done if you wear gloves the entire shift. Most people only do this for vacation etc like other commenters said, but there's a few girls who have acrylics pretty consistently. It's only a food safety issues if gloves aren't worn, most of us think it's not worth the hassle but our manager would never force us to remove nail polish unless we refused to wear gloves
