for fellow green beans: What to do when a customer asks for a tik tok drink (self.starbucksbaristas)

when this happens, I first ask the customer if they've ever had it here before. if they say no, I say I cant make it, out of an ingredient or smthn.
if they say yes I ask a parter and they tell me what it is, like the zebra frapp which is kinda common at my store. if the customer demands, I ask if they know whats in it or what it tastes like. usually, they don't know and I for sure don't know what it is and so we both look dumb and they order an iced vanilla latte instead.

I’m not a green bean but in general, unless they know the recipe or it’s a very common one like the iced white mocha w/sweet cream foam, I tell them I can only do it if they have the recipe. None of the tik tok drinks are official recipes so we are under no obligation to know how to make them. This is probably better than telling them you’re out of an ingredient, but the responsibility on them.

I mean I get letting them down gently, but I get people so mad when I saw we’re out of things, like it doesn’t seem to be any better. If I say sorry, I don’t know that drink, do you have the recipe, that seems pretty gentle to me. Just frame it as wanting to make sure you get it right. It’s not our fault stupid TikTok baristas want clout and create drinks that people think we all somehow know about. I’ll tell you though, it does get easier, so don’t stress too much about it.

don't go out of your way when they're ordering something that doesn't exist on our menu. ask them for the recipe and if they say they dont know it say well it's not on our menu sorry so i don't know how to make it without the recipe. it's on them

I just tell them I don't have tictok and have no idea how to make it without a recipe. Order what you want, but I will judge you. Haha

If i’m soloing DT, i’ll explain as they order a “tiktok drink” that we need the recipe in order to make it (or) that the drink does not exist. Then at the window i’ll make a joke how we don’t have fun names for our drinks here, “although I wish we did, zebra frap sounds so cute!! We have long names like salted caramel cold foam cold brew” etc etc it goes over well usually. I guess pink drink is an exception to fun names

So the zebra frap used to be called a tuxedo frap and that was an actual Starbucks drink they used to make around New Years.

There are so many TikTok drinks always ask that specific customer for the recipe. Tell them it is not a sanctioned drink and we don't carry recipes for them

If they tell me how to make it and show me the ingredients, I don’t mind making it but I make sure I take my time on it. If they just show me a pic and asked me to guess the ingredients I’ll be like no.
