Pros and cons of being a shift supervisor starting this summer? What exactly are the duties? TIA!! ☕️☕️☕️(self.starbucksbaristas)

You will have a higher minimum amount of hours, so you might need to open your availability
You will have more responsibity, but you will do a lot less of other things. You will rarely be on bar, for example, because you cant watch the floor.
Trading shifts/ calling out will be harder. You cant cover barista shifts, and baristas cant cover you.
You will have a new role of cash management, the second biggest responsibility in my opinion. You are responsible for all cash flow while you are supervising.
Biggest is that youre responsible for your team while you work. You are "acting manager" when they arent in the store.
Any problems go through you. You will need to call in tickets, accept deliveries, angry customers, answering the phone, inventory counts, freezer pulls.
It isnt for everyone but I love being a supervisor. My team is comfortable talking to me and asking me questions, and thats the important to me.

At my store taking a barista’s shift or having them take yours isn’t a huge issue. If it’s the latter the shift trade just won’t be approved if there isn’t another shift on duty to be in charge

Interesting. My store makes a big point that we are more expensive and can only cover baristas as a last resort.

I think my SM is just grateful for the coverage tbh

This is all correct.
I'd say it's also important for you to keep store morale up. If you're in a bad mood... They're in a bad mood.
You also need to tell people when to do stuff. Start floors, start pre-closing etc

Yes! I asked them what my "thing" was, if I had one. They said its that I'm always calm no matter what. I was happy to hear that.
Fire in the oven? All good. Someones throwing up in the drive thru? Dont worry, we will handle it. Someone called out? That's fine, we will haul ass and have fun doing it
Shit happens, the day goes on

On a more serious note, it really just comes down to who your manager is

It’s nice having the stable hours and pay. I’ve definitely learned a lot more about the company and I feel I get more input about changes at our store.
I’m not sure how it is at other stores, but good luck getting time off. I’m psychically and mentally tired all the time from it, so make sure if you do it to set aside some “me time” for yourself on your days off. Having a supportive management and team helps a lot.

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 655,432,372 comments, and only 133,252 of them were in alphabetical order.
