Honestly as a shift, whenever I find out someone is trying to promote, I purposely put them in situations where they need development in and then walk them through whatever they’re struggling on. (Like deescalating situations with customers, coaching newer partners, etc.)
If you’ve already talked to the shifts themselves about it and they brushed you off, my best advice to you would to be to either bring your health code violation concerns to the store manager or apply for a shift position somewhere else and transfer to a different store.
Another thing that I can add to this is that the thing which helped me promote was becoming a trainer before I became a shift. You learn a lot about the process of things, how to coach your fellow parents, and you develop fundamental leadership skills. (I was on the fence initially when my manager first brought it up, but it ended up being a TON of fun.)
I’m really sorry that you’re going through all of this. Starbucks is supposed to be fun and it sounds like you’re straight up not having a good time 😅 I hope that things start looking up for you soon though and everything gets better soon

maybe lead with your ending line haha. i have to say this is not all shifts and it’s a bummer that yours are breathing down your neck like that.

This post is incredibly relatable to me. I am now a shift but it was a hell and a half to get there. I have many horror stories about my experience so far at my store, and how horrible it was for me to finally get the promotion I very much deserved.

Call them out on what they are doing wrong and if they say something just tell them you are trying to lead by example
