Anyone else getting hardly any training?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ninjagao5
I started about 5 weeks ago I had my basic module that I got 70% the way through and my 3 days of trading with about 2 hours being hot bar and then I was throw into drive through, it’s been since those 5 weeks I’ve been mostly on drive through and I still have about 15 seconds on cold bar and I have a vauge idea how to make hot bar drinks. Anyone else experiencing this, is that the normal training time etc?

Yeah, tis the joy of starbucks. You'll be stuck on drive till you've mastered it

If you can try to work nights, as it’s less crowded, and you can be shadowed in making drinks. There is more time to ask questions then. I recommend trying to close, and tell your manager you still didn’t finish your online training, did they do the test with you? Bring this up to your manager or a shift supervisor you trust

There’s a test? Also I’m a minor so I can’t work past 10pm

Basically your trainer is supposed to have you make a few standard drinks on your own (it won’t be perfect and that’s ok and expected) and that’s supposed to showcase the ending of your training. If you don’t do it as shown it tells the trainer what to go over once again a s maybe that area was rushed or unclear. Tell your manager about this. Idk what time your store closes but see if you could try one night shift then if not closing.

Yea no my trainer trained me for three days and then the next week went on vacation to Hawaii and I haven’t had any further training other than some 5 minutes on cold bar making basic stuff

Talk to a shift lead about this, express your concerns and say you want more practice on bar. Communication is key at Starbucks, it’s a team sport, the only way to know a team mate needs support Is if they tell us.

When I started, I was working morning shifts and all I was only trained to do was CSS for like a good 3-4 weeks, because it was always so busy and there wasn’t any trainers.
Eventually after those 3-4 weeks, I switched to closing shifts and I only got 2 days of bar training. I can easily pick things up pretty quickly.
If you’re able to, I would switch to closing shifts, and plus I feel like all the best workers are at night.

From my experience and what I know, training supposed to be around two weeks (including first day/first sip and modules) with a certified trainer. Before this last month or two, I was one of the last baristas to be properly trained. Personally I was mostly on CS, dto/window/solo drive and front until the end of my first month/second month of the job, they started putting me on bar A LOT and have since and they basically put me on solo bar (we are cafe, drive thru store and one of the busiest stores in the district) after a few times of being on bar and I was like “uh guys idk what I’m doing, I can’t do solo” but now I’m one of the most common bar partners at my store. Personally many of my co workers didn’t get trained properly/ had to get trained by people that weren’t certified trainers, ie, I had to a couple of times.
