Where to go (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by starbsbista
I was a barista for years and finally promoted to ssv a little less than a year ago. My store sucks. The work ethic of the baristas and shifts are awful and I put in so much work to get nothing out of it. I genuinely am a good worker and I can say that with confidence. I’m kind, timely, hardworking, assertive, understanding, and communicative. I love asking my team what I can do to be better. It hit me that I’m the only one who cares about the effort I put in. I understand this job is just a stepping stone for a lot of people, but how does that make it fair that I’m getting paid the same or less than people who put in far less work than I do? I know that I could just stop caring, but honestly, I just want to find a better job that appreciates these qualities. Has anyone here left with supervisor experience and gone somewhere they genuinely enjoy more? Problem is I’m only 19 and don’t have any college experience under my belt.

It's not fair. With my output of work I should be paid 3-4x as much as some of my partners. I guess what prevents me from acting the same and not caring is that I'll be doing my own character injustice. That's the thing about being paid hourly; you get the same whether you do 10x or 1x.
I only still care because I won't let the bad work ethic of others be my problem and cause me to fall in the same boat as them. You'll lose if you join them.

Exactly!! I know that it’s technically on me that I’m getting paid the exact same or less to do 10x the workload, but if I give up then I’ll fall into the habit of bad work ethic and where do you go from there? I’d rather keep my habit and maybe gain other opportunities. I just wish I knew what to do. I refuse to join them 😅 if I’m in this same position in 3 years please put me out of my misery

Improvise, adapt, overcome. I've started giving much less fucks but still produce enough work to be considered of good quality. I don't often double time when I'm left alone on bar anymore (I have to solo mobile orders, cafe orders, drive through orders). For things that are out of my control, I simply won't care enough to let it bother me. Just an example but yeah - when you get into a much better work environment, you can give more of yourself.
