I love how you took the time to capture a picture 😂
crzyshiba25 points1y ago
Hahha I would to lol haha 😂 are you sure you want to eat a cookie that can light on fire lol
MiaLedger24 points1y ago
I'd be more suspicious of a cookie that *can't* light on fire.
maine_coon212317 points1y ago
Lmfao “this is fine”
chowderchop3 points1y ago
Exactly what I was thinking!
ckt113849 points1y ago
This USED to happen every week. The more recent cookie recipes don't tend to do this though.
sir_ramen10 points1y ago
Maybe they're using a less refined sugar now.
rainbowstoner2727 points1y ago
Yes. Twice now. 😑
mypoopoosmelly6922 points1y ago
How did you deal with the fire? I wanna make sure I know what to do incase this ever happens. 🥲
rainbowstoner2730 points1y ago
We have a sink near the warming area so I dropped it in there and turned on the water. Another shift put in on the counter and smothered it with a towel, but I don’t recommend that. Floor would be a better option, tbh
Spinelise25 points1y ago
I still have NO idea why this happens. I've caught cookies on fire like 3 times now myself. I never reuse parchment paper, our ovens are clean and they're always single toasted. Makes me scared to eat our cookies now 😂
ilovelimes33314 points1y ago
omg i read "i never use parchment paper" i was like😫
Spinelise14 points1y ago
We aint here to talk about THOSE partners........
cookiemonstah873 points1y ago
Sugar burns really easily
Spinelise7 points1y ago
Is the cookie just extra sugary?? Cuz all our other pastries are fine in the oven. I'm surprised that the brownie of all things wouldn't catch fire then
ohhot-pot-ao3 points1y ago
The cookies are probably held together by sugar, so yeah I'd assume they're loaded with more than anything other than the cake pops.
mypoopoosmelly6917 points1y ago
Ohhh lord I’ve never had this happen to me. I’ve seen other posts and comments before about cookies catching on fire… How does it happen? Did yall double toast the cookie?
MyAdoptedDoge124 [OP]16 points1y ago
nope, just a single toast. It’s only with the cookie that it does this, and we can never find anything wrong with the oven.
_hipster_dog_10 points1y ago
I've had this happen once to me. It was on a day that we had sold a lot of sandwiches, especially the grilled cheese. It was only the parchment paper that caught on fire tho but no other pastry before that did????
And for those asking no we don't reuse the parchment paper you nasties
No-Pearl0005 points1y ago
i’ve noticed with the grilled cheeses when i open the oven there’s extra steam or smoke or something idk
PM_your-pickles16 points1y ago
Only during peak
gabgasm13 points1y ago
I’ve had this happen to me as well. We received communication to use 2 sheets of paper in the oven when warming cookies to avoid the sirens wrath
croissantboyy12 points1y ago
YES. My question is WHY IS IT ONLY THE DAMN COOKIES. you'd think it would be the grilled cheeses with how much they can smoke after from the grease
shosh_c2 points1y ago
With the old ovens I only had it happen with cookies. With the new ovens I’ve had it happen way more, and with other items. First fire in our new ovens was a ham and cheese croissant…
[deleted]11 points1y ago
I’ve causally stomped out more cookies than ide like to admit
Trumps_left_bawsack8 points1y ago
Had this happen with cookie bags once. Like an idiot I immediately threw it in the bin with all the very flammable parchment paper and hand towels lol. Luckily it went out just before it hit the bin otherwise this would be a story of how I set my store on fire.
littlekatie37 points1y ago
You should see the burns on my arms
cammypearls6 points1y ago
this happened once when i put my manager on food and she was screaming and looked at me to do something 💀
luv_u_bb5 points1y ago
this happened to me when i was a green bean and it was my first time warming up a cookie and i was horrified
Necessary_Low9394 points1y ago
It does when the parchment paper is reused many times. The paper will be on fire, not the actual cookie. Anyway I haven’t seen actual pasties on fire so this is a sight
nikkicarter11112 points1y ago
Wait there are people reusing parchment paper???
Idk if that's why, it's happened to me more than once and only with the cookies. I definitely don't reuse the paper lol
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
Some people just can’t seem to take the paper and the item out together for some reason. It’s not that hard but maybe it just doesn’t click in their heads
Roolita2 points1y ago
I’ve had this happen twice and I never ever reuse parchment. It’s only ever the cookie cooked on qty 1
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
I just don’t reuse parchment paper. It’s not hard but switch out but newer employees tend to have trouble with this
croissantboyy1 points1y ago
neeeevvveeerrrr reuse the parchment paper!!! that's a massive fire hazard and also is unsanitary/ makes for definitive cross contamination. i've had baristas leave the paper in and forget to pull it out so it would get pretty charred but luckily none of mine have ever reused it 😭😭
Necessary_Low9392 points1y ago
I don’t reuse it but I’ve seen people do that.
nicathor3 points1y ago
I can see no logical reason this would happen for a cookie of all thing unless yall are reusing the parchment paper, in which case yeah no duh it's catching fire
croissantboyy3 points1y ago
it happens at my store all the time and my baristas never reuse the paper EVER. I my myself have had the cookies catch fire when i put them in (fresh parchment paper every time) my working theory is that maybe the setting for cookies is just extremely high and maybe the chocolate or like butter/oil in the cookies causes it to get hot enough to go up in flames
nikkicarter11112 points1y ago
yes and JUST the cookies
aee782 points1y ago
It's happened at our store. The kid on oven just pulled it out and asked if this was normal?
Chaotic_Cat_Boi2 points1y ago
Honestly a lot of fires seem to start in those ovens
xoMisaa2 points1y ago
wait my shift posted about this in our groupme yesterday…… her cookie caught on fire too!!!
ZestycloseRate73301 points1y ago
So I didn’t have the cookie catch fire, but the warming sheet around it caught fire 😂😂
bunnysbigcookie1 points1y ago
i’ve seen a lot of people have this happen in the old ovens. i haven’t seen it yet thankfully 😅
greenssv1 points1y ago
Green bean put a red velvet loaf in the oven.....then forgot about it. I was counting change and asked does someone else smell something burning? Walked over to oven opened it up and inside....a smoking piece of charcoal shaped like a red velvet loaf.....laughed my ass off!!!! Let green bean know you don't put anything in oven that has icing 🤣🤣🤣
EnvironmentSad15481 points1y ago
Not only cookies but brownies too
rdm1010201 points1y ago
Yes! Something from the cookie catching the paper on fire. And in my experience it only happened when I put the cookie in upside down.
ihateyousoymatcha1 points1y ago
It's usually the paper that actually catches fire first, but I have no idea why. Only happens with the cookies.
Either close the oven and let it burn out, or have someone comfortable doing it use the tongs to put it in a sink
Beautiful-Director1 points1y ago
Never happened to me but it has happened to other partners at my store
CardiographicDuck1 points1y ago
They don’t with the new oven but with the regular ones it’s a hazard every time you cook them 😂
cookiemonstah871 points1y ago
I've had cheese catch fire, but only if it fell off a sandwich and I didn't notice so it was in there for quite a while. We also had someone leave a chocolate croissant in an oven for so long it turned into a croissant-shaped chunk of charcoal. No cookie fires that I'm aware of, though
ItzBoogieMan1 points1y ago
Uhhh do you guys not use warming sheets????
_pkthunder1 points1y ago
The warming sheets are the things that are catching fire
ItzBoogieMan1 points1y ago
All I see is the cookie on fire, I’m assuming it’s something wrong with the oven.
Roolita2 points1y ago
The parchment burns really quickly so you’re seeing the last of it burning up. I’ve had it happen a couple times
