Coffee tasting (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by The_tired_barista
So in my district we are able to become Coffee Masters (idk if it’s a temporary thing or if my dm is seeing if it’s worth bringing back full time), a group of us at my store have finished coffee academy and we are doing the coffee tasting portion. We have to both try and lead a coffee tasting. I’m honestly really nervous. What suggestions would y’all give for both tasting the coffees (I really hate the taste of coffee) and leading a tasting yourself?

I work at a licensed store inside a Marriott, I wish we were given opportunities that corporate stores have :( I'd love the opportunity to have more in-depth coffee master training.

I think most stores rn have discontinued the coffee masters program from what I’m hearing. Corporate Starbucks has a lot of issues towards unfair and unsafe work environments. And while it’s fun to learn, it is hard to do a lot of things. My recommendation tho would be look up everything you can about Starbucks (wether through some sort of Starbucks approved website or google and if you have the ability to, try and taste the different coffees. You might also be able to find a store and talk to the SM about everything and see if they are doing the coffee masters program and if you could tag along. It’s very educational and interesting

I have heard a lot of s%\^& is going down in corporate stores (hence why partners are walking out and unionizing) so I guess I can consider myself lucky that I work at a licensed store.

Yeah. Hour cuts, breaks not happening, cracking down harshly on dress code (being dress coded for things that aren’t even technically in the code), managers abusing staff, managers letting customers say whatever they want to the employees, some people are definitely going to be loosing their health insurance bc of the hour cuts. Overall corporate is pretty crappy rn.
